busted timing belt

what can happen to an engine when the timing belt breaks? I know that valves can be bent, but can anything happen to the block?
I am wondering b/c i am trying to find a b18a/b for a lsvtec. I found a 93 b18 for $350 but the timing belt is busted. Say the piston did hit the valves, would that cause any damage to the rods, crank, cylander walls, block?

Normally when that happens the valves get damaged and bent. There can also be some damage to the surface of the piston that has hit the valves. But block, rods and crank are pretty tough. They should survive easily.

I've had the timing belt loose a tooth and stop working. when that happened there was no damage to the motor whatsoever it just wouldn't run

for $500, you could get a complete b18b, but if you are rebuilding for ls/vtec im sure that block will be ok, usually its the valves, like everyone has mentioned.

JK japanese 401&kipling huh. Thanks I'll give them a try. But i would prefer to stay around hamilton b/c transporting the engine long distances may be a problem.
