PLEASE HELP!! 1.6 timing belt
Hey guys, i got a 91 civic with a SOHC 1.6. doing timing belt. evreything went perfect up until the part where we had to put the tensioner on. For some reason it doesnt seem to be right. if any one has any pictures or a tensioner on that motor, it would be so awsome, thanks

if your not supposed to remove the tensioner, then how you supposed to replace it?? i did all three essentials while in there. belt, pump, tensioner. when putting the tensioner on the way it seems it should be, i doesnt make the belt tight and when we start the motor it skips. when puttting the tensioner on another way, so the belt is tight, it gets really close to the engine mount. its exactly the same as the old one but i cant seem to find the exact way to slide it on. i know i should have taken a picture before but now im trying to figure it out

how are you setting the tension on the belt?...what is your sequence of events?
Honda's have a pretty specific way of setting the tension, thats really easy once you've got it down. But the stupid thing is that the crank pulley bolt should be reverse threaded, so that you can turn the engine counter-clockwise without loosening the crank pulley bolt.....grrrrr (shakes fist).

everything else is on right! the only problem is that the tension pulley has a slot in it as you probably know! when putting the pully into place, one end has a spring the other has a little hole thats supposed to slide onto the nipple that on the block. when i put it in that position, the slot thats used to ajust tension is horizontal but the spring has no tension on it, the belt is loose and cant be adjusted anymore, and the belt skips. it seems like the proper way, but obviously something is not working! if i play with the positioning of the tensioner so that the spring is actually serving its purpose, the slot for adjusting the tension is vertical and it pushes the belt close to the engine mount. thats a little hard to understand without a picture. i was just hoping that someone would have a picture of their tensioner, so i can compare and see what im doing wrong. i know its not everyday people have their timing cover off but i was hoping someone would. thanks

I don't know if it is similar but when I put the tensioner back on my engine it was quite obvious how it went on.
