boost controller

so last year, with the stock internals on my b16, i ran 8lbs of boost.

since this year, i did sweet forged internals (eagle, JE, etc) - i wanna run 18lbs of boost.

im thinking of a boost controller...eyeing greddy..the price isnt too bad on them..and ...it is greddy.

any other suggestions ? (though, changing the wastegate spring would be cheaper.............)

apex-i AVCR is a nice EBC (electronic boost controller) as well.
I assume thats what you're after?...an electronic one?

Thats the one.

Electronic ones are nice, b/c you can set the amount of PSI per gear (well with the AVC-R), they also have a quick switch from low psi to high psi settings.

my buddy picked one up local, but he paid like $700 for it.
Online, they go for about $300-350 US.

manual boost controllers DO NOT do the same thing as EBC's....well i guess technically they do, but a manual boost controller can't control the boost per gear, or by RPMS like the EBC's can....not to mention the EBC's also double as a fancy digital guage. MBC's only set the boost to, lets say, 15psi, and its 15psi through every gear.

EBC's are especially useful on high PSI setups (such as nicotine's), b/c he's planning on running 18psi, it'll be REALLY useful to NOT have 18psi in 1st and 2nd, with the EBC you can set the boost to 8psi in 1st, 10psi in 2nd, 15psi in 3rd and 18psi in 4th and 5th (or whatever works best).

Its completely up to you nicotine what you wanna do, but you'll need some sort of boost controller eventually if you wanna run more than 8psi.

.

this is what i'll probably get, and who i'll get it from. simple, effective and all i'll need, low boost for daily driving, flip a switch and i've got my limit raised to a higher setting when i need it.

i've dealt with craig a number of times and he is a good guy.

for another $100-150 you can get an electronic boost controller such as the Apex-i AVCR or Greddy Profec B.

But thats a good idea for a manual boost controller.
