ball joints on my 93 civic?

My car is making this very annoying screaching grinding noise like rubber on metal. It doesn't always do it right away, some times it starts to happen after a lot of turns or a lot of stops and starts. But once it starts, the screaching becomes very loud when ever I turn the wheel or when ever I press the breaks and the car and the body rolls forwards or backwards a bit.. the noise is also there when im in park and steering left and right.. i took it to a mechanic and asked for his opinion and he said i need new ball joints. one of my experienced buddys says i just need to grease them. i don't want to pay a fortune on this problem.. what is best?, or what do you think the problem is? and has anyone even heard of greacing ball joints?..
thanks.

I'm willing to bet it's either a wheel bearing, or your brakes, but if a mechanic says balljoints then i guess try that first....

I had to replace one of the lower ones, it wasn't that bad, I think it came to $40 for the part, then we quickly thru it on.

ball joints hands down .. close to falling off...

personally I check mine regularly and if there's even a slight noise it gets replaced.... no use risking it breaking and taking out my legs

You cant grease the lower ball joints, you have to replace them. only on dirty domestics can you lube them some of them anyways

what you have is upper control arm bushing wear and most lokely the joint itself replace end of story.
