b16a price question

Okay! i looked up this engine since its so OLD i know its a hella alot cheaper then getting an b16a2 ... so i figured like i was told it would cost be 1200 complete. but i see it on sites for 1725 . to me that a ripp off if anyone know's where i can spend my 1200 bucks for a complete b16a1 engine lemmie know .... i noticed in an other fourm that the engine alone was 450 bucks so i figure with a complete swap near 1200...

All said and done my Swap cost me $2500 for a 91 Civic with B16a1. Something people have neglected to tell you is that a B16a1 complete will come with OBD0 and a Cable Tranny where you need a different OBD and a hydro tranny if it's for your 2001.

Like he said, why do you want to run that type of engine in a 2001 if that is what you are doing? Just out of curiousity other than price.

I thought it was illegal to swap in an engine that's older than your vehicle? Maybe I heard wrong , i dunno.

why not just get a basic premium rsx k-series motor...i see them on forums for at anytime, complete for up $3000. definitely more torque than a b16a, your car is heavier than the cars the b16a came in and were meant for, thus it'll be like putting a 1.6 litre civic engine in a 3000lb car which equals you not going anywhere. There was a K20 selling on here for $1500 for months...do a search in the classifieds and do not make the mistake of putting that motor in your car. Yes it's a cheaper setup, but you're looking at complications with the law and once again your car will be as slow as molasses. peace

Lot more expensive to put in and its not a straight install like the b series. I think the reason he is looking at that particular engine is because it's cheap.

Hello!

Hopefully i can answer a few of your questions.

The b16a2 are 1200$ for just the engine as listed on our site ( http://www.teknotik.com/product_sect...disp.php?id=37) . This does not include the tranny.

$1200 is a little low of an estimate for a complete setup (even "previously installed" from a private seller ). The bulk of the sell price is from the tranny. B series hydrolic transmissions are verry difficult to find. They are very desirable.

If you have found a b16a1 for 450 and its a good engine, i'd suggest you pick that up, and then try and find a transmission to mate with it. If you can get a compression and leakdown test if the engine is still in the car..even better! However sometimes taking a risk on a cheaper alternative to sacrafice warrenty and proven compresssion test results if the engine fails will hurt you in the end. Dont get me wrong though...there are deals to be had out there.

If you looking to save a few bucks you can always combine a b16a1 with a b16a2 hydro tranny like has been mentioned.

In your profile it says you have a 2001 civic? Is this what you plean to swap the engine into????

Also dont forget that you are also going need ecu, conversion harness, engine mounts..and its always a good idea to put on a new timing belt, waterpump and change all your fluids while its out. Dont forget to add these costs to your budget for the swap.

Post up any questions you have!

Cable tranny's are a bit harder to find then Hydraulic one's. Just go through Teknotik. I bought my B16 through them and The engine run's Perfect and Doesn't burn a Drop of Oil. Also if you buy through them And the Engine is a complete Dud then it will be replaced. The chances of you even buying a dud engine are slim since the Engine's are checked before you buy them. You can't be sure of anything if buying an engine out of some guy's garage. Tranny's and other part's are different. But for Engine's I'll stick with Teknotik for Peace of Mind. But if your trying to source drivetrain part's check www.torontostreetracing.com There Forum section is like a Big Honda SHopping List. I bought my Motor Mounts from there. I also found my YS1 cable tranny for $400 on there. The part's selection on there is pretty vast due to Volume of User's. Good luck on the Swap.
