Cool 3rd gear pwr loss...dealer even said..

hey everyone,
in 3rd gear i usually feel the car bogg down abit.
i mean , if i'm giving her then it doesnt happen at all b/c i dont let the rpms drop.
but if i'm just driving normal and shifting around 3,000 and when i go from 2nd to third the rpms' drop to abit above 2ish and then its like errrr....takes abit to accelerate, its like i lose power for a moment and as the rpms rise then its goes away.
is it b/c i should be shifiting at 3500-3600 rpms instead at that point??
i asked the dealer and had them test drive and look at it and they said they didnt feel anything and it didnt sound like anything major either.
but yea i thought i'd ask you guys. you guys know best
so yeah...help would be great.

its a 98 civic si

I think you are just feeling the lack of power most hondas are crippled with.. With an engine that doesn't even produce 100 Ft/lbs @ peak torque, you can't expect much acceleration! Especially @ 2000rpm..

You should be shifting your civic between 3500-4000rpm.

you've prolly had your car long enough that you should be familiar with the powerband... if you feel something is amiss, then it prolly is. I suspect it's just time for a good ol' fashioned tune up.

Yeah mine does the same thing when shift at 3000rpm, its no biggy but I do think it has to do with my 17" wheels. If I shift at around 3500-4000rpm, I have no problems, my engine doesn't bog down or anything.

ummm yeah shifting way too early and expecting too much....

seriously when I drive normally (for me) second gear is city driving third if I was to cruise at 60km/h

however if I switch to super granny mode (which I do from time to time... it's no reving past 2k till I'm in 5th.... and I'm ussually there by 60km/h but when I'm in this mode of driving I know I'm outside the power band and that each gear takes forever to get going.... feels like bogging when it's just out normal power band.

granny shifting causes carbon deposits that will lead to stuck piston rings and oil consumption later on.

dump sea foam into a vaccuum tube and clean out your motor if you've been driving like grandma.
