turbo problem with a bolt.
Hi, I seem to have broken off a bolt in my turbine housing! Ya it sucks, I don't want to screw it up ( was expensive) sholud I just try and drill it out and tap it? or take it to sa machince shop or something, I'm about 15 min north of barrie. I'm kinda nervous to drill and tap cause its cast. It was a grade 10.9 bolt that seized in there.
thanks

It looks like there might be enough "lip" to get a set of vise grips on there. I suggest taking it to a shop and they can use a torch to heat it cherry red and try and work it out with a pair of vise grips.
I think thats your best bet.

I'd drill into it, then use an EZout. soak in penetrating lube hella long time. if it doesn't go, then heat and work the EZ out. if the EZout breaks, then go with the welding a tab route.

Center punch it.... then drill with a small drill bit, then use bolt extracter... you can get from canadian tire... or if your too cheap, drill a hole in it and hammer a # 20 torx bit into the hole and it works as an extracter.

got it out, welded a nut to it, and worked it out slowy. luckily there was only a little bit in there. used a arc welder with 6011 rod. replacing bolts with longer ones and a slighly lower grade. the one that broke in there was a 12.9. using a 10.9 instead. apparently a 12.9 is real strong but brittle, and the lower grade should have a bit more flex to it before snapping. Using lots of anti seize for re assembly.
