see thats why i stuck with my building up the y8, i figure its the motor that came with the car and plus saying its a sohc 1.6 really makes peoples jaw drop. im hoping to hit 400whp safely, then take it from there to see what i can do without blowing it.

I dont know why more people recommend the d16z6 over the d16y8. The y8 makes negligibly more HP than a z6, but its newer.

My opinion? D16y7 with a y8 intake manifold and turbo, if you're staying d-series.

I thought even if you run low boost, you should change all that stuff:
walbro fuel pump, high flow injectors, etc

haha im in the middle of figuring that out, the y8 pump is definately not the best, apparently porting and shimming of the pump does wonders, i am currently looking into a toga HV pump, but i have been told it is no different then a oem pump. But doing the port and shim forsure will solve the oil issue

it is a good idea to do so but if he's only going for 200whp then 440cc's and stock pump will work, not sure how long on the stock pump but i know mine held up good and my ish was old

Oil pumps on Y8 's are ***. If you do what Tyson said it will work fine.
Like I stated earlier, any D-Series can make good power numbers. Its all about the build and doing it right.
I prefer non vtec over vtec engines due to the fact they can make bigger numbers and can handle a much beefier cam, and you will have greater reliability with it in the long run. Theres a reason why BISI runs strictly non vtec.

If you want HP its going to cost money.....bottom line!
Trust me if you want a high comp N/A d like mine, you don't want to cheap out. Even if your going the boost route, you don't want to put some e-bay turbo on and think you'll get reliability.
Ask Zeeman.

Pick 2 of the 3.
1.Fast
2.Reallible
3.Cheap

I'll take 1 and 2..

hey z6 is the best motor in general for the sohc, the y8s spin bottom end bearings if you beat them too much. you can get motors with 50 000 ckicks on them at tiger japan in toronto. have gotten 3 of them from there and they have been pretty strong

I heard that the aftermarket support for the ZC is weak.
