obd "?" wire harness question

OOOKAAAAAYYYY... I have Obd1 motor and an obd2 vehicle...

1. Will the obd2 harness work with an obd1 motor?

2. Are the obd 1 and 2 harness' the same except the ecu?

To keep it simple i'm probably just going to get the obd1 harness but i still want answers to these questions...

1) yes
2) no

Use your obd2 engine harness. You'll have to have it modified for the dizzy, injectors and alternator. Or buy an obd2 dizzy, injectors and alternator, this way they'll plug into your engine harness b/c the obd2 dizzy uses 1 big plug whereas the obd1 dizzy uses 2 smaller plugs. The obd2 injectors have a different style plug on them than the obd1 injectors, so you can either re-use your obd2 injectors, or wire up obd1 injector plugs onto your engine harness. The obd2 alternator uses a 3 or 4 wire rectangle shaped plug, whereas the obd1 alternator uses a 4 wire round plug. Re-use your EVAP purge solenoid, b/c the obd1 EVAP is different than the obd2 EVAP.

People make using a different obd generation engine in their car way more complicated than it needs to be.

So your saying i need both harnesses but i should use the obd2 and modify it...

I failed to mention that the obd2 harness (which i have) is nonvtec the obd1 motor (which i have, which i want to install) is vtec.

Should/can i use the those parts(dizzy, injectors and alternator) off my old motor..?

your not driving the EG anymore?

why didn t you buy a D15B OBD2 motor they are the same price?

you can always wire vtec separately after your done the swap but you ll need a new ecu or modify the one you have...

got this to my door for 6, hence all the question about converting the wiring...

this was less than 50kms

Well I don t know where you bought the motor, but if you bought it from tiger then yes they would have been the same price. Also their is no guarranty how many Kms a used JDM motor has... I dealt with many used motor places... they are all shady and owned by the russian mafia lol..

Anyways good luck tomorrow morning. I hope they bring you a good motor thats in great shape with the right transmision.

im waiting on my phearable ecu right now. it was 100-200 bux more than a used p28 + conversion harness woulda cost me but for me the custom maps are worth the cost. if you do an i/h/e then squeezing an extra 10hp out of the sum of those mods with a tuned ecu is worth it, imo. i bought it when our dollar was above the USD so it came out to about 300 bux and that's including the obd2 -> obd1 harness

and im almost entirely certain that only the economy versions of the d15b were available in obd2, because the b16a2 took the place of the performance version in the obd2 civic.

you lost me... but maybe you could answer te original question...

Zeeman's reputation preceeds him and i kno he knows what he's talking about but if i was willing to buy the obd1 harness will it work or does the obd2 harness have commitments to the car that the obd1 harness wont fulfill? ...... thats a mouthful... Zeeman seems busy so i have to ask again..

I'm gonna pm him but if anyone else knows please let me kno

you need an obd2 -> obd1 conversion harness so you can plug your obd1 ecu into your obd2 car, and then your obd1 engine shall run.

Does this mean i dont need a obd1 engine harness at all?

well you don't NEED the obd1 engine harness. You can re-use your obd2 injectors, dizzy and alternator to avoid having to do any wiring.
But if you want to use the obd1 dizzy, injectors and alternator, then you'll at least need the plugs for the dizzy, injectors and alternator so you can use the obd1 dizzy, injectors and alternator on your obd2 car.
Its easy enough to wire up the obd1 plugs, but IMO its even easier to re-use your old ones so that you don't have to do any wiring.

Don't expect miracles from your phearable ecu, its just a basemap (even if he's telling you its custom, its just his best guess as to whats going to work). And i wouldn't consider that a "tuned ecu", b/c its just him blindly making adjustments to the fuel/ignition maps hoping they'll work good. I've seen a few of his custom maps not run the car so great, so i doubt the extra cost will really be worth it.

You don't NEED an obd2 to obd1 ecu conversion harness to make your obd1 engine run in an obd2 car, you just need it to be able to use an obd1 ecu, your car will run with an obd2 ecu.
