Looking for some help!

Hey everyone,

Okay so I have a 91 Civic EF, it had the classic TBI and I wanted to boost it, so I did the MPFI swap and did the turbo install but now I am running into the MAP sensor problem where when I am under boost and it goes over a certain psi the Check Engine Light comes on and the car will stall when clutched in, I did some research online and found out that I most likely need to install a 3 bar MAP sensor to fix this, I was wondering if anyone on here has experienced this problem and if so could you walk me through how to fix it? Thanks so much guys.

The stock Honda Map sensor can't boost that high. I have a GM sensor if you want?
PM me
I think the honda can only boost to 7psi?

Hondas map sensors are only capable of 11.xx psi. You will need to switch to a gm sensor or motrolar map sesnor which is much better option in my opinion. The tune will have to be looked over again as it will change fueling and trasient fueling.

You will have to switch to a different map sensor calibaration in the software you are tuned on. Sounds like you are boost spiking which can be dangerous to the engine as it only reads the last column of the fueling and ignition tabes.

it doesnt spike or creep, it boost regularly just seems to be hitting a cap or cut at 5 psi, and then i get a c.e.l and when i check my ecu i get error code 3, map sensor

I would do what Arc_55 suggests, as well as get a dyno tune done it.

when using a stock ECU the MAP can't see boost without setting the CEL off and then running in limp mode (this is why your car will run like crap once the CEL comes on).

You NEED to use a chipped ecu with the boost option added to the chip to get around this. When the ecu is chipped and the boost option added the stock MAP can see about 10.5psi before **** hits the fan.

You can't just wire up a GM 3 bar MAP (or any other MAP sensor of your choice) and go because every MAP sensor has a different voltage scale. You'll need to select which MAP you're using in the software used to make your chip and retune (like arc_55 said).

I'd recommend converting to obd1 and getting tuned with Neptune or Hondata.

Yes for sure have the car tuned before you damage the engine. Map sensor engines can not compensate by just bolting up a turbo kit. Zeeman can set you up with a sensor and tuning so i recommend you contact him.
