ignition problem... anyone ever run into this?

I' ve been doing quite a bit of work on a 92 civic hatch including removing the dash and steering column. I put it back together and tried a test start but when I turn the key in the ignition it goes just far enough to unlock the steering and starts the beeping but the dash cluster lights don't light up and it won't let me turn any further to the accessory or the start position.

does anyone have any ideas or experience with a problem like this. where I should start trouble shooting?

Take out the steering column double check everything if nothing binds especially the ignition switch & the tumbler.

Problem solved, thanks for the advice. i double checked everything on the ignition switch and tumbler there was a sensor pin of somesort that was bent a bit that was interfering with the tumbler movement.

all right that problem is fixed now with the battery connected I can start the car no problem but now I can't remove the key out of the ignition unless i disconnect the battery. the KEY INTERLOCK SOLENOID gets hot to the touch.

I tried removing the solenoid completely from the ignition and the car still starts and runs. CAN I JUST LEAVE THE SOLENOID OUT OR IS THERE SOMETHING THAT I NEED THAT SOLENOID FOR?

Can you pull the key out while the car is running when the solenoid is out?
