New engine

Hey all,
Right now I have a stock D16Z6 engine and it's got 230xxx km's. It's burning quite a but of gas and oil right now and I've been thinking about swapping it. Which engines would you guys recommend? I'm not looking for much power just something that has more kick than what I have now and not too bad on gas. I was thinkin about a B16 or GSR engine. What would you guys recommend? And how much would it cost when EVERYTHINGGGG is said and done? Thanks in advance

I'd go with the GSR....im guessing about $2000 installed. Keep in mind that it is much cheaper to work on the motor while it's out of the car. (ie: water pump, timing belt, clutch, flywheel). And replace the 5th gear with an LS for great fuel economy plus it won't wear the wear the motor on the highway (ie: 4000rpm @ 120kmph with a stock B16 tranny).

GSRs have more kick than B16s right? Also, I'm probably gonna ask my dad's buddy to install it for me cuz he's a kick *** mechanic (and he does it for practically no charge ) so how much would it be for jsut the engine and other components?

I paid alot for my D15 to B16 swap, though i wanted to make sure it was done right and professionally.

-B16 motor and tranny installed
-valve cover gasket
-Alt belt
-stage 1 clutch
-lightened flywheel
-timing belt
-waterpump
-fuel filter
-thermostat
-throttle cable
-upper and lower rad hoses
-polyurethane solid motor mounts
-aluminum cam seals
-all 3 motor mounts (2 motor, 1 tranny)
= $4500

I also had the motor bay refinnished to the firewall for $1000.

ya if u want a direct drop in go for GSR or b16 if u want to build a little go for b20 but all in all it should run you roughly 2000 (2500 regularly for install and stuff) if your pinching the penny you can get a good no grind tranny fanywhere between 400-800 but id suggest spending the cash and getting a good LSD tranny thats has warranty (incase it grinds or is popping out) you can get a good motor for like 1000-1900 bucks unless your pinching the penny which you could probably get for like 600-800

if I'm gonna do it I'm gonna do it right. I don't mind spending the money as long as it's worth it. So I'm lookin at spending 3G's?

if you got 3gs set aside for your swap and you got a mech who will do it for cheap your good to go personally id suggest getting a used SiR LSD tranny with the 5th gear swapped out already and get a GSR you might have to search a little (dont know if torontojdm.com updated their prices) but 3 grand is a good amount

Okay, I'm in the same boat, researching swaps and all. What's all this talk about swapping out the fifth gear?
Swapping it out with what? Can a shop that'll do my install do the fifth gear swap too?

Off topic, but in terms of swaps and engine work, what do most members here think of I-garage in Markham?

Kk basically swapping the fifth gear will save u some gas cuz your engine won't rev as high (a gsr revs at 4000 rpm at 120) and it's a hit or miss with shops that do it go to a place where they advertise transmission repair

igarage is good but don't expect Amazing service your swap means nothing to them other than another job if you go to abstrakt motion (behind igarage) mikey will help u out he charges 100 bucks more but he makes your engine bay look importfest ready and he makes your swap top priority and put alot of attention to detail trust me for that extra 100 you get 300 in services

Swapping the fifth gear with what!? I didn't know you could just swap out one gear. Forgive me for being a noob but are you talking about a fifth gear from another car or like a "skunk2 fifth gear for 96-00 honda civic si" type thing. (just an example there, no need to make fun of me)

You swap the 5th gear from an integra LS B18B motor.

Surprised they made that much power with that "tiny" turbo haha

Okay from what I've just read, it looks like the B18C's and B18B's BOTH have S80 transmissions!? So I'm swapping the same gear for the same gear? Doesn't make sense to me.
Are you guys saying if I kept the stock B16 tranny in and threw in a B18 motor? I was looking at doing a COMPLETE swap B18C5 with a tranny from a teggy too.

However, now I'm starting to lean heavily towards the H22 swap instead. More power and (more importantly) more torque. Engine costs less. I pay a bit more for the install, but it seems like my better option.

Comments?

Also, does anyone have any contact info for abstrakt motion? Do they have a website?

Sorry for the double post, theirs apparently no edit button.

Also, for those that own them, any idea what a stock (or lightly modded) B16 would be revving at while doing 120 on the highway? How about an H22 (would swap for an H tranny)? (just thinking in terms of gas consumption)

Thanks

roughly 4000-4500 on 120 on 5th gear if you swap the 5th gear with the synchros (spelling?) of an LS tranny than its alot lower
