Ive got the same car as you. Im gonig to do a b20 swap.
Best bang for your buck...especially with your type of budget.
You can get a jdm B20b longblock for 550-600....and then pair it up with a short geared tranny.....b16 or gsr and your set. Plus your mounts, axles, ecu chipped....etc.
To make it vtec you will need the golden eagle ls/b20 vtec kit which i believe is like $200 in change? plus the cost of the vtec head.

Unless your doing the swap yourself, it's going to be hard working within that budget.
If you want a vtec motor I would go for a B16 since they are so cheap right now and you can find one installed for like $1800 - 2000.

Really?
I would much rather swap a B18c5 or LS/B20 vtec....at'lest you have some TQ.
O.G poster should just turbo his current engine with that budget and he'll be happy he did..

agreed, the only thing i would say he could do since he wants to swap, get a new d16 or rebuild the one he got. and then boost. more power and cheaper.

I assure you, you definately do NOT need to sleeve the block to run a DSM turbo @ 20psi (which I wouldn't do anyways).

I've run 25psi on a stock sleeved d16z6 on a very big turbo (wayyyyy bigger than a 14b or t25, i.e. DSM turbos) and it made 400whp until it dropped a valve a short while after. You'd be surprised what the stock sleeves can handle, even on a d-series. Don't get me wrong, the sleeves are defiantely the weak point in that setup, but they didn't break even at high boost levels on that big *** turbo and its not what I would recommend for that much power.

What I'd do is just boost a stock d-series for now on 8-10psi. Then slowly build a d16z6 with vitara pistons/eagle rods (sleeves if you're baller and want crazy power) and crank the boost up once the built engines in.

You want torque, a turbo will provide gobs of torque.

The big question is, Are you paying someone to do this or are you doing it yourself?? If your not, consider the labor costs. If figure you know that but you can be better helped if we knew what the real budget is when concerning parts and all.

a lot of people are like this. one night i rolled up to tims and this guy is like what you got under there..n im like z6 stock and so the guy started talking **** that i should swap for b16 ill go crazy fast. i just laughed at him and told him that its cheaper to boost my z6 and go faster than a stock b16swap. ofcourse dohc is better for turbo but if you are looking for 200whp or even under its cheaper at yet still reliable just to boost stock motor. even stock d16 with 8psi 14b turbo will smoke b16 [obviously] and since im building this, my build will come up to 1200$ or so+install.
so yeah its just a mindset and nothing else.

My built NA sohc ZC non vtec will walk on a B16 with mods....Thats why I said that. Unless your dropping a turbo on it then there pointless to build NA.....since they stank at making TQ.
