d engine swap
so i bought a 1998 d16y8 vtec engine and tranny swap. i plan on putting it into a 1999 dx hatchback which runs a d16y7 non-vtec. the guy who sold it gave me an sir ecu. wondering if this would work or should i get a new ecu. can someone also explain how to do the wiring for ecu, IAC, and the vtec. or give me a link that explains it. thanks

well first off whats the ecu code? to ensure what ecu u actually have, should be 1 letter 2 numbers, Ie, p30, p06, p07, etc. Also have u ever done a swap before? In any car, would really help u understand certain things if u have, I will look for a wiring link for ur swap shortly.

The proper ECU you need is a P2P ECU. If your car was originally non-vtec, then you will need to run a vtec wire from the solenoid to the ECU. The problem i see is your IACV. The Y7 is three wire where as the Y8 is two wire. I'm not exactly sure the fix for this.
Best of luck

ok for the iacv problem, do the following
you will need to take two spade connectors and connect them to the two prongs on the male side of the IACV connector, the connect these two wires to the three-wire female plug on the y8 wiring harness, being sure to disregard the orange wire. You will need to swap wires A12 and A14, and then disconnect wire A13 from the plug at the ECU.
Understand ok? so pretty much, cut the wires off of the iacv, get a set of connectors, 2 male 2 female, connect the other to wires together minus the orange one which is omitted. Then back down inside the car, where ur ecu harness goes to the ecu, swap a12 wire with a14 wire. then completely take out wire a13. Let me know if you need the vtec wiring walkthrough that one is pretty straight forward.

if your car is obd2b plug it in and go
but why use a SIR ecu on a d16y8? Thats a DOHC VTEC ecu.
you'll also need to wire up vtec and prolly do the 3-wire to 2-wire IACV mod

ya dude, u need to get the proper ecu, it'll run like ***, prolly confuse the hell out of the computer, kinda expecting another cam and all, lol. Anyways, yes thats what i was talking about (the iacv pic). I'd prolly do that last for the swap though, get everything in there and good to go.

it doesn't matter. All that matters is that the engine harness you are using is obd2b, so the obd2b computer will plug right into it. All of the underhood things will plug in, except for maybe the distributor and alternator, the plugs might be different, in which case you could just re-use your old stuff.
