D to D swap

i will be doing a simple D swap in my 97 hatch, i picked up a d16y8 out of a 99 si, my only question is to do with OBDIIa and OBDIIb as the car is wired for OBDIIa and the new motor is OBDIIb i still need to get an ECU should i get A or B? and will i need some sort of a jumper ? i just want to get everything figured and have everything ready. thanks

all you need to do is re-use your OBD2A distributor and ECU and keep the car OBD2A.

All of the sensors (except the dizzy) will plug in on the new OBD2B engine using your OBD2A engine wiring harness.

96-98 si ecu plus few wires fed to ecu and you will be good. You said hatch so assuming you have a y7, you will have to rewire the iacv and add vtec. rest will plug in

well i should be able to use a 1.6 el could i not i mean it also has a d16y8? i would just need to make sure its obd2a. also i was looking at the motor and it has a z6 intake manifold on it and a integra throttle body lol, im assuming this is gonna change some wiring.

D.T.P. what wires will i need to fed to the ecu other then the vtec ones?

yes you can use any 96-98 EL ecu, they all have d16y8's.

the only wires that need to be added are 1 for the knock sensor and 2 for vtec (1 for vtec solenoid, 1 for vtec pressure switch)

you have to remove a pin and move and pin to a different location at the ecu to convert the wiring to use a 2-wire Idle Air Control Valve (IACV) that basically EVERY other engine uses other than the d16y7 (which uses a 3-wire).

you also have to switch the 3-wire IACV plug to the 2-wire round style plug and you just leave the orange wire out.

using the d16z6 intake manifold you'll have to wire up the OBD1 IAT sensor which also uses a 2-wire round style plug (that you need for the IACV)

^yup exactly what zeeman said. Pretty much just keep track of which plug is what, when putting the harness on the engine, see what plugs dont match up, and change em. simple as that. Believe map sensor will have to be extended since it now would be on the top of intake manifold. Also TPS may be a tad short unless you use a y8 harness.
