time to defend the Toda cams! lol!

from what i have witnessed, Toda C's can actually idle at a decent level (around 1K rpm) without much problem. the Toda B's that i've purchased will idle like stock as well (800~ rpm). i have seen these Toda cams make huge midrange power and top end. however, these were on motors with extensive headwork and custom exhaust set-ups (2.5" hytech systems) with compression of at least 11.5:1.

i do agree with everyone that you should probably stay away from the Toda cams though.

you can slap them in to your existing set-up with springs and maybe a 'chipped ecu' and hope to get 10-15whp out of it. once again, not maximizing their potential.

your budget probably won't be enough to run these to their full potential, whereas a turbo setup will cost you less than 3000bux and you'll have more than enough power to have fun with.

head work/p&p can run you at least $1000CAD alone. not to mention a very good header and exhaust to maximize flow (the toda header is arguably the best 'production/off-the-shelf' header and it's $980USD). if you get the cams, it's recommended that you get the matching springs as well and the springs alone are $360USD (cam gears: $400CAD, retainers $200CAD, timing belt $170 = all toda brand just an fyi).

anyways, i hope i helped with some Toda insight for you! good luck with your build up and keep us posted!

I appreciate the insight very much man This has been a very helpful thread for me. Sounds like I am just gonna go with the turbo setup though. Its more in my budget and more of what I am looking for. I was just glacing on youtube and liked the sound of the todas but if its not all that great or meant for street or just for what Im looking for then its not worth it. My next question is my new exhaust is 2 3/8" is that too small now for turbo ?

by your avatar i can see your car's been sitting at Jay's place for a long time. i see your car there all the time over the summer. perhaps i might persuade you into n/a route by taking you for a spin in my k20 eg or m3. no disrespect to zeeman and FI in general, but i'm just expanding your view on your future build as to how good is a well build n/a machine and its powerband on a light chassis

do what u like my friend, but, i'll give u some advice.... don't search for what works, thru threads posted online. speak to those that know, racers, machinists, tuners etc. they will teach u what u need to know in regards to putting a proper build together. the net is full of propoganda.

a k series swap seems to be out of his budget.

well Im tryin to find people to speak to reguarding motor stuff. Yes a k20 is out of the question since I just got my b18c1 dropped off a couple weeks ago. Yes my cars been sitting awhile at jays place. I have newer pics on facebook. Most of the body work is all finished up. I'll go for a spin in anyones car. Im curious about what kinda setups people are running and learning also since Im still a noob on engine stuff.

i saw your car at jays place last week, i was there giving him a hand with a car, doing some mechanical work.

If you want to stay n/a i'd suggest going with a b20vtec, its in your budget and are great power makers, even in relatively stock form. Displacement owns in n/a, the torque of a b20vtec will satisfy anyones need for a fun street car. A rip in a b20vtec would prolly steer him towards n/a....until he came for a rip in my car....lol.
Going for a drive in a k20 would be sort of useless, b/c he'll need another $3000-5000 to have something comparable to what you (360 vortex) have in your car.
I've tuned tonnes of n/a setups and i love them, nothing like a well built n/a screamer to put a smile on your face, hell i have one myself, its just got a snail (and double the power) on it now. You'd be surprised what my n/a b16 sounds like with a turbo on it....mmmmmm....lol.

i agree with you. if leaning toward n/a with his budget, b20vtec is a great option to consider

you don't need to touch the engine, GSR's are great for boost.
