if you mean a poor mans Type R, thats when you take a GSR bottom end and put a B16 head on it.

A Type-R engine is almost a GSR bottom end with a B16 head, but it uses different pistons in the bottom end and a slightly different crank (same stroke as the GSR). The Type-R head is a b16 head thats been "ported", has better valve springs and valves, better cams, better intake manifold and throttle body compared to the b16 head.

If you are looking to make any serious reliable power I highly suggest you come in contact with zeeman from hivelocity tuning. He's seen it all.

b18b1 is a very reliable engine... its when u get a b16 head for vtec that ive heard bad stories.

BUT Turboed b18b1 with a b16 head is awesome! and fairly cheap.

As for power, ask Milano SIR how he enjoyed his ride in my car and how he liked the power output. :P

^ so are you suggesting a build with a b18b, and placing a b16 head on it? :P i have an chance to get my hands on a 95 SI with a rebuild head, debating doing that or sticking with the b18 head

threadjacked

oh and for cheap build i would suggest soapbox...

You realize that makes no sense? Regardless of the reason why you do it, putting a B16 head on a B18b bottom end is the same ****. So, how would putting a B16 head on a B18b bottom end and boosting it be more reliable than just putting making in N/A?

Anyways...if reliability is the highest priority here when making the extra power, than I have to agree that the best bang for buck is a stock B18b boosted with a very good tune.

You will make more power from say a boosted GSR, but look at how cheap b18b's are. Bang for buck y0.

B18b1 with a b16 head will give u vtec... I did say that i have heard of people having issues with reliability. But i have seen a few b18b1 with b16 + turbo. Just google LS VTEC TURBO... ull see.

Right...I know how an LSVTEC is made...VTEC head on a non-vtec bottom end... B18a/b or B20..whatever it is, you throw on a VTEC head and add the oil line.

BUT, you said you've heard bad stories of B18b's with a B16 head (LS-VTEC)...but than you go on to say a boosted B18b with a B16 head is awesome...so what im saying is, how does that make any sense, since the only difference than would be the turbo?

A Turbocharged LS-VTEC setup in NO WAY is more reliable than an N/A LS-VTEC...everything else being equal.

No one said they did...all B18a/b's are non-vtec.
