nice, I remember reading about these a while back. Its good to see them put into production. I'm sure they'll sell like hotcakes. Definately priced to sell.

would this be necessary for a mild LsV build (hoping to hit 160~170whp)
or would it be overkill?

In my research, I've read that lots of people port the b16/GSR head, but just wondering what difference this will make compared to a used b16 head on Kijiji for ~300. (mild build in mind)

I'd just use a stock b16/GSR head if you only wanna make 170whp.

Keep in mind these heads are $500 USD with no internals, no springs, retainers, rockers, cams, valves or LMA's. You'll spend a butt load getting all of the necessary parts to make one of these heads complete. If you read the link, you'll see that they were having problems with some of the parts (internals) being produced, so until the problems get resolved, these are bare heads.

Yeah I think I'll just grab a used head, ITR cams maybe for my modest goals.

these heads are a steal...a brand new complete head with internals is 900USD which is a bloody good deal
