Suggestions for Body Repair

My mom got into a bit of a fender bender last night because of the bad weather and all. Basically, the front bumper cover is cracked up pretty bad, and the plastic lip piece that is under the bumper was torn off. It's a 2005 SI Sedan. Honda is quoting $1500 to repair it. I was just thinking, wouldn't it be cheaper still to buy the bumper cover and stuff from Honda and have it installed and painted somewhere else? Only thing I am concerned about it maybe the paint won't be of OEM quality. The paint on the bumpers from Honda seem to be quite flexible, where I have noticed when I have got something painted from a shop the paint seems cheaper and it flakes when bent.

I was contemplating buying a bumper from a scrap yard, but I am sure finding one for a 2005 would be quite difficult. Especially since the SI Sedan bumper is different then the 2002-2004 sedans I believe.

04-05 are the same.
honda bumpers that are originally comming with the car at the time of production are painted in a special painting facility with tons of research put into on how to paint it at what degree and for how long etc.....once you go to a honda dealership to buy a new bumper they do NOT come painted. Which means the dealership is going to have to paint it....unfortunately a dealership painting it is basically like any reputable bodyshop painting it....rather then going by specific specs set out by honda they go by knowledge......unfortunately honda doesnt give out they specs etc.....so it all depends on how good the warranty service is at the dealership or the other place.....imo if the warranty service is good its worth doing it there because if anything goes wrong they will do it back.

Thanks .. are you sure the 04/05 are all the same? I thought for some reason the SI's have a slightly different front bumper. I know any bumper from an 04/05 will fit, but just thinking visually.

I was able to find one at Standard Autowreckers for $265 but I believe its aftermarket. Also come to think of it, I think Honda inlcuded the price of the front air spoiler and License plate holder which I would definetly need as well. But I'm going to keep looking to see what I can find. So far its been very hard to find a used front bumper for the 04-05 But the 2Dr/4Dr are the same which might help a bit.

when u say front air spoiler...u mean the skirt or a black piece? cuz that black piece is rubber...and the crap thing is that item is like 100 bucks...the one for the 02-03 is like 30 bucks. its the same, one is bolted and the other is clipped on. ur best bet is too call for a used oem front civic bumper...make sure its seden, cuz the coupe one is longer at the end. and they should give u the whole bumper like the plate cover, and the black rubber at the bottem.
