Hey, i have a 1994 Civic DX, and on one side the rust has come through and the bumper has started to fall off, i have noticed this happens to alot of civics and if anyone knows how to fix that? or make it not noticable, is this a DIY or would i have to get this done professionally? thx

ummm my bumper was falling off the left side by about 3 inches all i did was when i was at some shop he drilled in a bolt on the underside of the rear bumper on an angle towards the quarter panel and that was it its never came out since

Thats just a temperary fix...if you really want it fixed, take it to a body shop

yes i realize that but it has been temporarily fixed for about 5 months which is pretty good if u have to save sum cash up to fix it.

The way I read it was the shop put the screws in and just left it...didn't know you were still going to get it fixed after saving money.
I just wanted to make it clear, that was only a temperary fix

oh i have no intention on fixing it until next year when i got all my body work done at once shaved atenna all dents taken out all rust cut and rewelded new metal and a fresh coat of paint.

just get heavy duty duct tape and take the bumper side to the quater panel.
and paint the duct tape the colour of the car if you want to go the extra mile.
putting holes into the body to hold up the bumper is stupid cuz yoru going to cause more rust from the water going thru the new hole.

Yeah I need some body work done too. Just gotta finish getting all the parts I want then off to paint!

k cool thx, i think ill go to a body shop then, id rather have my bumper falling off slightly then having duct tape holding it up, but i did kind of use your idea, i covered the rust with some tape and painted it black, its less noticeable, and now the bumper only hangs off about 1/2".

drill hols on a sold piece of the quarter panel and and use zip ties (only do this if you are going to get the quarter panels fixed eventually because i dont think it will pass safety with zip ties holding the rear bumper if you choose to sell it

^^Close but an easier way it drill a hole underneath the bumper on the car. There is a hole that will be a couple of inches way and use that for a guide. Then as suggested use a zip tie to hold the bumper.

The bumper is only anchored on a the rear of the car and not the side where it is falling off. It is only the bumper cover or skin that is falling of not the actual bumper therefore it will pass a safety.

No your bumper will not flap in the wind and your car will not be more or less safe with this.

what exactly has rusted through?....what I find most of the time happens is the support behidn the bumper cover rusts through, and you cna replace that quite easily

With regards to the above problem, I too have same typical civic rust on the rear fenders. One side of the bumper is hanging as well.
Does anybody know any body shops that can fix this for a reasonable price?
By fixing it I mean taking out the rusted part and welding in a new piece, primer, paint and finish coat.
I'm from Mississauga and got a quote of $1400 from Lyods body shop!!!
I then got another quote from a body shop that charged $600 but they've moved and I can't get a hold of them..
Does anybody know anybody in the Mississauga area?

u get what u pay for, the 1400 dollar job will probably be much better done with all new rear quarters welded in.
