Price question

Hey, I went to a shop today, wanting an install and painting of my 4 piece body kit, and my hood isn't aligned, so they were going to align that too.. I was quoted about 1000 dollars (US).. Would you say that is a pretty decent price.. or have you had lower?

wow...60 dollers in paint...940 dollers labour...I think im gonna be sick...why dont people just spend the extra for ureathane, find somone to paint it, and installation is simple with a hand drill and screwdriver... you would probably save money and have Urathane!!

umm boostzex u are sooo wrong.
lol
u will be spending like the same amount of money to just paint the urathane kit cuz you cant just use regular paint to paint it. U will need to mix in this special agent into the paint so it comes out the right colour y? cuz urathane is a special material and the paint applied to it doesnt come out as the rest of the car unless u put that special mix to it. And oh yea one more thing urathane flexes like a bitch which means u will have to install the kit and then take it to the shop which means the shop will have to remove the kit again (if they are a proper shop) and then repaint it and then reinstall it again.
so same **** different pile with the urathane being flexible and all which is a plus.

Actually Im quite correct lol... you can use regular paint...If you dont believe me check the link below Wings west has been painting kits long enough to back me up on this one...Yes a special uerethane primer is required, but is not any more expensive than a regular primer. And a special paint is definately not required, as any paint can be used 'OEM' with a good dose of flex agent(which aids in resisting spider cracks when the bumper flexes..it has nothing to do with the colour) , which any body shop will have... My buddy has a paint shop, i helped him do my kit, so this is first hand info... 1 liter of black paint did my whole kit and it cost me about 60$ And as for the primer, he didnt even charge me for it because its not expensive, and the flex agent for the paint, he had a huge can of the ****, and he wasnt to concerned about nickle and diming me for a splash of it... Total est cost about 100$ I did all the prep work myself, took me A good part of the day...And as for fitment I did it all previously the day before drove it for the night, then removed it all the next day, and preped then painted...Once the kit has been fitted it takes no longer than 30 minuits to remove, and 30 minuits to reinstall, if your somewhat mechanically inclined...The only real time consuming part was sanding...which anyone can do...900 dollers is allot of money for something you can do yourself in less than 2 days..

http://www.wingswest.com/pdf/URETHANEPREPPAINTINST.pdf

Please note the part at then end where it says apply base coat of paint per manufactures specifications IE. OEM paint...

As for Fiberglass it takes skills to make a 400 doller kit look good, which is where the 900 dollers labour comes into play...

my buddy got his 2002 black civic front urathane bumper painted black and guess what now its a dark dark shade of green now. at first the kit might seem good wit the paint but eventually it starts to shift colours.

oh well whatever suits u.
but yah a fibreglass kit will usually take custom work to get on but remember they are light as bitches compared to a urathane kits i need like 5 people to carry the front bumper LOL

five people? Jesus...I guess I dont know my own strength, I carried mine by myself...and your buddie got a crap paint job then, cuz they forgot to use a primer if its changing colours...Thats a shame to have a paint shop ruin a 2002 civic, with a cheap paint job...Tell him to take it To Quarter Mile Customs, they will paint it properly for him..I know the owner, his urethane has been through 3 summers now, and it hasnt even cracked once let alone change colours...mine is a year now, it looks perfect... How many times a year do you have to repaint your glass from it breaking all the time? sure its lighter, but its also brittle and fragile, which means you have to change your driving style to avoid doing permenet damage...Ill take the extra 20 pounds anyday to be able to bump a curb and drive away knowing nothing serious happened...Remember these are daily street cars were driving here not Trailer cars...

But Like you said whatever suits me...same to you whatever suits you...no sense arguing over it, I was just stateing that 1000 dollers is allot of money for labour, and the paint is really not that expensive...
