Paint Job at home
#2
i can give advice on parts ive done i wouldnt recommend a full paint job though
try trim pieces first like sides bottom lip, bumper etc.
ull need
- sandpaper
- primer - with flexy **** in it for plastics or reg metal primer
- ur car paint color, can be found on interior of drivers side door in codes like this mine is milan red but the code says r-81 goto cantire after and find the code and name of the color. from the bottle touchup paints or small canned ones of exact match
- clearcoat
actually jus check my diy frst, if u can do this like i did without any probs u can prob pull off a car repaint but it will still be alot of money n im sure a few messups.

Do you plan on painting your entire car at home? I highly do not reccomend it. Reasons being are because . . .
1. You probably have too much dust in and around your house (garage)
2. You do not have an air-makeup unit. Used to keep everything warm, ventilated and dry
3. Compressor issue....if you have one or not...
4. Spray gun. I highly reccomend that even if you do end up spraying you car at home you do not buy the $25ones from Princess Auto

1-Dust, get a shop vac and clean your garage...wet the ground before you shoot your paint.
2-Ghettor paint booths can be built with 2x4's or PCV pipes and 4mil plastic from homedepot, 1-2 fans for ventilation.
3&4- This is the kicker....if you want to paint the entire car, i hope you have nothing smaller than a 60 gallon compressor and can put out the CFM's for a semi-quality spray gun.
I am by no means an expert, but have been researching on painting for the past couple months....I've finally bought all my supplies (minus paint) so here is a small breakdown.
Phase 1: Paint preperation
-Wax and Grease remover
-220 grit dry sand
-400, 600, 800 grit wet sand
-tack clothes
-1.8 tip HVLP/LVLP Primer gun
-either epoxy primer, reg. primer, sealer...dependant on what you want to do with the paint.
Phase 2: Paint (will be getting)
-Reducer
-Paint
-Flex agent
-Hardener
-Clear
-1.4 tip HVLP/LVLP BC/CC gun
Phase 3: Cut and Buff (still learning this part)
Misc. stuff that you'll need are Respirator, filters, air regulator, water traps, spray gun cleaning kit, masking tape, masking paper.
Probably missed a lot of stuff but i guess its somewhat of an idea.

Yeah i plan to paint my car from green to black... project integra..
for the summer....
i just want it to look somewhat decent.. but not look like the spray paint look..
i just want it to be even... and shine a little... then i'll be satisfied..
after i paint my car.. I go to the ministry of transportation and insurance people.. and tell them..
do i gotta pay anything?

what i may suggest but not 100% sure
as stated above yes clean ou the garage with a shop vac, wet the ground, i would put up plastic sheets, and on these plastic sheets i heard if you use vaseline, it attracts the dust particles and paint which will help...
but i know in a real paint booth, the car must be baked.. well heated, so couldnt you place 2 heat sources facing the corners, to help keep the climate warm...
i have been debating about the home paint job, i just like doing everything myself it brings more satisfaction...
or find small paint shops that will rent a booth for ya

Well the problem with climate is the moisture in the air and contaminants in the air which can effect solvent (reducer) evaporation (flash) ideally it is recommended to shoot the car @ dawn when theres no/less pollution out.
check out www.autobody101.com thats where i'm doing my research. I also bought a book from chapters thats pretty good....also spoke to some dude @ Sherwin Williams and he recommended an automotive painting program that dupont is offering, should be located on the site according to him. Hope this helps,

Have you heard of the $50 paint job? The results look pretty good actually.
