lime damage?
Lime, as in the mineral, not the fruit.
There's some construction going on at my apt's parking garage, and one night some crud dripped on my car that looked like salt. BUT, big problem: it didn't wash off with any amount of spraying or washing. I called the super and apparently it is a problem they know about, it is the mineral, lime, dripping because the ceiling on that level "hasn't been sealed yet".
the local ziebart removed the lime from the paint (it hit my roof and the area between the front and rear driver side doors), and mostly from the plastic trim (not in the cracks), but not so much from the rubber.. they used some kind of acid that could damage the plastic and rubber if left on too long. the ziebart guy told me that if the lime was left on the car very long, it could cause the paint to pucker. damn!
i have nowhere else to park, so i have to use this spot.. so far it's been two weeks and there have been no more spots, but since it could happen again at any time, and has to be removed quickly, i need to know if there is anything i could buy to remove it myself. not CLR, i heard it takes the paint off too
otherwise, what can i do about this? car covers are fabric and this **** would probably soak through before drying on the paint.. is it safe to cover it with a plastic sheet or would that scuff the paint? any ideas or insight is welcome.

best thing is get a plastic car cover.
nothing else you can.
i had this happen to my brand new car the day after i brought it home and i had to get it sanded down and re-clear it because i left it there for a couple of days thinking its probably some kind of bird ****.

well i am lucky cuz i own a shop so its free for me.
but it can easily cost well over 200 dollars.
car covers are expensive especially if you want the good stuff.
imo if you cant afford it or cant find it use a tarp. you know those lue ones they are waterproof too.
