Legal or illegal lights?

I was wondering if i shave my rear lights and put in 2 10" red LEDs strips on either side and 2 small white lights for reverse, is that legal or illegal?

i belieive doing any of that kind of stuff is illegal.

if it looks way wierd and will attract attention from cops you run a risk of getting pulled over and ticketted for it.
if its clean and doesnt cause much attention they probably wont hassle you.

I've seen some done up trucks and SUV's with the long red tailights from the older Cadillacs molded on.

I donno why some people are just so pessimistic, not everything has to be OEM... altezzas' aren't oem are they illegal too?

Look up the HTA, there's a link to it on the board in the traffic ticket section, there are rules there about how your tails have to be, etc... everything about your car.

If you satisfy those your mod will be legal, but it's interesting to note that your LED strips would not be enough because they'd have to reflect other cars headlights from a certain distance, have two intensities (one for night time driving, and another for nighttime braking) and be able to signal when you're turning which would require another LED strip...

as long as u have a fully functional lighting system that conforms to the HTA and whatever other governing bodies you will be fine

so, if u have working brake, tail, reverse and corner lights/reflectors you should be fine...how many hotrods and custom cars have u seen with similar setup? I know I have seen quite a few and they all passed certification

it is illegal to do that mod.

reason?

when you look at the car from the side profile you will have to be able to see a relector or part of the tail light actually light up.
and since a strip of any housing wont go around the body of the car it will be illgal.

so anyone telling you its legal is on crack.
has it been done before tho? yea ofcourse it has and thats because any mod you will ever think of has been done by someone somewhere. being legal and illegal is another story
