Keyhole problems

I'm not sure if this is the right posting for this technical problem, but it seems to be the most appropriate forum.

For some odd reason I have the hardest time getting the car keys to unlock the doors on both the passenger side and driver side doors.

With the driver side door I have to literally jimmy it around for it to work.. and the passenger side recently just won't work anymore.

Can anyone explain to me the possible reasons for this?

I also don't have a working remote door lock fob and I already found out that to get one replaced and programmed is HELLA expensive from the Dealer.

But I'm just worried that I might end up getting locked out of the car one day when I won't even be able to get the driver side to work.

Any recommendations?

go to the dealership and get a new key cut. yours is probably getting too worn. Either that or your locks are freezing up.

I went to Canadian tire and bought some de-icer + lubrican solution, didn't do anything at all.

I'll give the WD40 a shot next.

do you only have one key for the car? I'd try that.

Its not the key, its the actual lock cylinder its old and the pins inside of it are worn and one day will seize up or break, that or itll break your key which will be even worse. Ive had the same problem i just bought new lock cylinders and replaced them. Another way you can do it is take apart the door pop the handle with the lock out and spray it clean with dw40 it helps.

Okay, so when i took my car in for an oil change, I asked them to take a look at my door locks that were seizing up, they told me that the tumblers(?) were worn out and the cylinders need replacing. They said $419 to fix... OMGWTF?!!?

I'm hoping that there is a more reasonable fix in terms of price. 419 just seems way overpriced.

Sol_searching or anyone else, can you tell me where I can go to get this fixed for a more reasonable price?

Thanks guys.
