Put that kind of tint on the front doors, and you will be more likely to get a ticket than a guy that has regular tints on them front doors.......either way, you can still get a ticket for "coating obstruct".

(a) with any sign, poster or other non-transparent material or object placed on the windshield or on any window of such motor vehicle; or

(b) with any object placed in, hung on or attached to the motor vehicle,

in a manner that will obstruct the driver's view of the highway or any intersecting highway.

Colour coating obstructing view prohibited

(2) No person shall drive a motor vehicle upon a highway where the surface of the windshield or of any window of the vehicle has been coated with any colour spray or other colour coating in such a manner as to obstruct the driver's view of the highway or any intersecting highway.

Colour coating obscuring interior

just a question that has been asked like a million times....
how come undercover cars have limo tint on all windows except the windshield, if they are illegal as far as the HTA is concerned?

Some of those cars are also used for the canine units as well. The tint is used to keep the car cool for the dogs inside.

You also answered your own question........they are undercover........it would be really easy to see a cop through a non tinted window, now wouldn't it? They can also have red lights that flash, contrary to the HTA.

So what's your point?

Red light in front

(15) In addition to the lighting requirements in this Part, a vehicle described in subsection (15.1) may carry lamps that cast a red light only or such other colour of light that may, with the approval of the ministry, be designated by a by-law of the municipality in which the vehicle is operated, but no other motor vehicle shall carry any lamp that casts a red light to the front.

Same

(15.1) The following are vehicles to which subsection (15) applies:

1. An ambulance, fire department vehicle, police department vehicle, public utility emergency vehicle or school bus.

2. A ministry vehicle operated by an officer appointed to carry out this Act, the Public Vehicles Act or the Truck Transportation Act, while the officer is in the course of his or her employment.

It is clearly stated that a police department vehicle is permitted red lights that flash .... but it is not stated that they can have limo tints (even though it would be bait out if they did not have tints).

i was just asking......

night_sleeper pointed out that they (An ambulance, fire department vehicle, police department vehicle, public utility emergency vehicle or school bus.) have exceptions in the HTA for the white/red/blue flashing lights and maybe more......but it isnt mentioned that they are exempted from the "colour coating obstructing interior/view"

They are always ammending the HTA.....(don't know when they did it last)....police have different allowances than us regular folk.

umm isnt black tint still a colour?

How many cars do you see with dark/light BLACK tint.....now how many do you see that have light blue/red/yellow/green....you get the idea.

Those colours stand out WAAAAAAAAAAY more than the regular black tint.

If you want the attention that "coloured" tint might get you....go for it.

It's not my car....but you wanted an opinion.

I jus wanted to know why the law is being flexible for a black light tint and not for other colours. Cuz from what you stated it clearly says no colour and black is a colour and if i were to get a ticket for having a non black tint but having lets say blue but its a light tint i would be pretty pissed. Cuz just like black blue works the same way but is a bit better cuz it doesnt darken the view tooooo much.

Black is technically NOT a colour......it's a shade.

Ie.....dark blue and light blue.......they both have "blue" in it.......the dark blue has black added to it.....the light blue has white added to it.........that is why it is called "a shade". Either way, it's still considered a "coating/film".

Also, if the cops were to start to give everyone that had a tint on their cars a ticket, can you imagine the backlog that would happen to the court system? They only give you a ticket if you give them an attitude.....they need to meet a quota (traffic cops).....or they can't seem to find anything else wrong with the car, but still want to give you a ticket for something(they are having a bad day).

transparent color tint doesn't obstruct the interior or the road at all... mine is too damn dark at night I've seen yellow and red and blue tints before, they are really light, just like glass with a touch of colour to it. It looks nice!
