bondo/plastic filler... how do you know if your mixing it right?

I'v got some "Super-Fine Putty Plastic Filler". Its like Bondo. Anyways, I used it a number of times, but it always takes a few tries for me to get the mix right. Any hints?

I'm either ending up with something that hardens in like 3 minutes, or something that doesn't harden even after 3 days!

The stuff that hardens too quickly is flaky and weak and can be broken apart easily..

I swear I'm mixing roughly the same amounts too. "A golf ball size" of the stuff, with a thin strip across (of hardener).

Also, I'm using to fix some plastic tabs on a few interior pieces, anyone use any good products for this?

Even some 5 year old two-part expoxy I found in my basement and I tried... wasn't very firm after a few days.

I've heard "shoe-goo" glue works well?

Any ideas?

back in the day when i used the regular bondo... it was supposed to be 3 drops of the hardner for every golf ball sized piece... although it does tend to harden quickly... the 2nd time I had to use bondo (89 nissan pulsar ) I got a differnet kind of bondo.. it was the UV ray stuff... what you do is you put it on in the shade essentially and then when your done... move your car to a sunnier part... the uv rays harden up the bondo and once it's hard you sand it down... that's what I'd do if i ever had to do it again.. much better then the regular stuff... about the same price aswell

i usually use a 3" strip of hardner for a like "golf ball" size amount of bondo, and i find it works good, never had had a problem with flaking, maybe u should use real bondo?

Actually, if you buy the bondo plastic applicator thingies, they said to mix the hardener to the colour of the applicator.
