what would you do?
last week these guys came to my house ringing the door bell....now being in a good mood that day i listen to what they had to say....thinking that they are mormings or something and going to talk all religious or something....anyways it was for a foster group...you know the one that sponsor kids all over the world....well sometime i just cant say no cause i feel bad that they have to go door to door and all that....well to make a long story short, now im am sponsoring a kid from guatemala and i got photos of him and his mom....now it only cost $400 a year to do this...one weeks pay check if that....now i have heard of some scams and all that in the past....me personally i think it would be cool to do this a write to him and help them out....but my girl says no.....has anyone done this before?

If you're serious about sponsoring a child over seas, you should aways go to a web site set up for that sort of thing. Or just call around to get contact info. It's a safer way instead of just handing over financial info to a bunch of people going door to door. Ask for some ID and if possible, a number you can call to confirm that they are legit. Like you said, there's been a lot of scams and such especially people going door to door. Even when they contact you over the phone can be too. Always ask for a contact number to call back later. I always ask for a number and if possible, an address. Say you'll get back to them when you do a little research or talked to your significant other. If they're hesitant about it, then you know something's fishy.
Do you remember the Tsunami? We went to the Red Cross web site and donate that way. Just make sure you're 100% before you jump into a commitment like sponsoring a child. Good for you wanting to do that!!

why not go with a major child sponsor?
like world vision etc????
usually sponsor places in general is a scam because X percent of each dollar put out by you goes to them. I believe christian childrens fund and world vision have the lowest.
