Question Tipping

Just wondering what type of tippers we have out there?

How much do you all tip the hairdressers and pizza dudes?
Sometimes I feel cheap tipping a hairdresser 2-3$ for a $10 cut, once I gave them $5 (it was near x-mas) though.

Is that a reasonable tip? pizza guys same thing, a couple bucks.

Also, does anyone tip the guys at the full service gas stations?

Let's here em

i am a generous tipper i think, on a $20 i give about 4 bucks...

usually i give about 20% of the total... they say to give 15%

thats in restaurants... for pizza guys, i just give them bills and say keep thye change... so i dont have to worry about it

full service gas stations.... I never go to them, lol

It depends on the person who served me. I usually tip around 15% to 20%.

i try to always tip well in restaurants especially the ones i frequent, but there have been times where i thought i had more money than i thought and i kinda had to skimp on the tip, which makes you feel like crap kinda.

i would never tip the full serve gas attendant....i odn't go to them amyway

i do tip my hair cutter, roughly about 3-4 dollars

i can't really think of anywhere else i tip...when we took a limo to the Sars-stock, we tipped the limo driver like 50 bucks, cause he got us nice and close to the park

"I don't get tipped at my job so why shoudl I tip" famous line my father uses...

I don't get why we tip. restuarants and such should pay their employees a decent wage. of course that means the cost fo a meal goes up but it's better then trying to decide What arbitrary about the food really cost.

for the record if I'm paying for the meal on my own I tip at 10% of the Final total, thats what it used to be when I grew up and I ain't changing I see no reason to increase that amount. (Although People did started saying the tipping rate is 15% around the same time that GST and PST started getting shown on the bill... hmmm) If of course I'm with others and one bill is being split I'll make sure the tip is in a reasonable range... too hard to get it exact and the others might not feel comfortable tipping at 10%. so it becomes a whatever works situation

My haircut is $15.00 I give $20.00
Pizza I give $3-$5

When I buy a drink I expect to pay $5.00 If it is 2.50 drinks then I give a 2.50 tip. If its 4.75 drinks they get .25. There is an exption for if I go somewhere nice, but generally speaking I will pay $5.00 for drinks. If it is 5.25 for example, they will get 5.25 and a dirty look.

Sometimes I give my tip ahead of time at the begining of the night simply because its easier and I get better service (if I don't go to that bar often) I will give $20.00 to the bartender that I have decided to buy my drinks from for the night. Not tip anymore and the plus side is that I get great service all night.

I took a couple of friends for dinner one night. Bill was around 150.00 and I left 100.00 tip. That was the most generous tip I have ever left.

I give whatever is convenient... I mean I don't have a strict percentage policy.

So for a $14 bill, if she's cute she gets $20. For a $2-3 dollar drink, I pay $5. For a $4.75 drink (I hate places like that) they get $6.

Pizza guy gets a minimum of $5 for a decent order, same with a cabbie if the ride was good. If it was crap, he gets the next combo of bills from the price.... so say it was like $13.25 - he gets $15.

I think tipping is a scam.

People need this money as this is how they earn their living.

Go get some skills.

My tipping is random.. if i go there a lot... i will tip more... pizza dude get change towards the closest bill.. and usually a loonie or two... hair ... i shave my head, so i don't need to worry about that.

i had a friend who worked at a busy club on weekends because he made more doing that then his daytime office bank job which required an education... that to me says bartenders make too much.

you're a barfly, you're not supposed to be making money.

IT people should get tips? We have way more stress than you (bringing a few beers 5 minutes late is not the same as a microsoft server crashing and putting over 100 people out of their e-mail).. we service people (tech support).. and we're usually understaffed and running around like chickens without heads.

Maybe the ppl building software for the servers should get some more education and make servers that didn't crash. Then you could be out of work, and bring me beers instead. And then cuz you're a bar fly, I won't tip you.

I wouldn't wants tips, I'd just want a better cheque.

Sometimes I would rather be a bartender man... none of these idiots trying to click links that don't exist and are really just arrows on a webpage.

If one has never worked in the service industry, they should not say that the people that do deserve tips or not. I use to work in a job that received tips...I am a well educated and successful person, by the way. The **** that some people put you through is insane...people working tipping jobs deserve their tips...if they do a good job at it.

Being that I have been in that situation, I always give a decent tip. But it always is according to service. I know how customer service works so if someone does a half *** job at it, it reflects in their tip. If someone goes out of their way to make it a memorable experience, I leave a memorable tip. Some places I frequent almost get on their knees when they see me now. Give respect, get respect.

Bruce Fee...you seem to like talking down people. I'm sure this is a hole in your life somehow. Being that your an "IT guy" I see where your attitude may come from. Just keep in mind, people don't always choose their jobs. I have met some of the brightest people in the oddest places.

For food, I usually tip 15% on the subtotal (so add up the taxes) unless the servie is crappy, then I do random stuff. For drinks I tip a buck a drink regardless of how much they cost unless it takes a long time to get my drink, then I tip nothing or something insulting. Some bartender at a College St. bar made me wait 10 minutes for my credit card bill while I was trying to leave with a girl, she got 1 cent on a $230 tab.

I'll usually tip 15% (add up the taxes) on meals, if the service was really good i'll add some more, if it was crap i'll take some away...

drinks just like bruno said a dollar or two a drink i find to be more than enough esp at a bar considering you're having more than one, so it adds up real fast

Pizza is a different story, well with pizza pizza anyways because they already charge a $2.50 delivery charge in addition to your order, so usually i'll be real cheap and tip up to the next dollar or so because to me 3.50 is a decent tip on a freakin 14 dollar order...

I always wanted to go to a restaurant once and put a big plate with change at the end of the table and when the waiter comes be like this is how much you can make off our table tonight... and everytime they **** up take some money out, if they treat your good they get to keep it all sometimes waiters treat you like crap and that's when i wish i could take money out of their pockets so they'd smarten up...

I usually tip around 15-20%.....

however, I don't believe a tip should be implied all the time, the way it is now. I think you should only tip if the service is really really good, something far above average......however, that is not how the system is set up....
