tech support issue of the month!

"I restarted my machine, and it says no signal"

"i'll come by"

i walked to her desk and pressed power

"what was wrong?"

"it was off. i pressed power"

"why?"

"because you shut down"

she proceeded to argue that she restarted, not shut down... i just left.

i had some similar incidents when I used to work for IT support in my school. but in my case i had to be real nice to them and explain them in the most basic way possible.

yeah.....they are allowed to be either stupid OR rude....not both.

if you are stupid, but nice, then i understand.

if you are smart, but rude, cool.

you cannot be both.

At this point I will gladly take a problem like that. Yes its annoying but its a simple fix and then you can go on with the rest of the day. I used to be all friendly and go over to peoples computers and fix everything, now if I can I just do it over the phone.

i can't be bothered to talk to some people over the phone. the building is small enough i can walk over.

i like to tell people their problem is 'the user'

haha

HAHHA... what are the reactions like when you say 'the user' is the problem?

it baffles me how some people can work on a computer everyday for 8 hours and have been working on one for YEARS, and still have no fvcking idea how to use the damn thing

there is the cheesy comment "the problem is between the monitor and the chair"

i've said that to the HR lady.

she just looked at me puzzled, I laughed, and then helped her out.

usually when i say "it worked before you broke it" or "you did it" users tend to say "i didn't touch anything" i do it all in jest, even though they really did 'break' it.. if they didn't touch anything then i guess they hadn't been working all day?

everyone is restricted here, so tech support is usually something stupid. most people never need it.. .maybe once or twice since i've been here and it's been like "how do i use pivot tables in excel?"

"good question" i usually go over and try and figure it out with them.

it's just a few dumb dumb users.. i have no idea how they have the capacity to drive a car, yet don't know they need to click on the up arrow in outlook to check new mail.

If I don't know nothing, I just let the IT guy work on the computer and I bow my head and let him tell me what to do.

same as the people i work with.
did you notice IT people are seriously the biggest nerds?
the people i work with argue over stupid things and are lazy and weak as hell.
as400 sucks
win2k vs winxp
etc..

its so annoying to work with them, and theres no such thing as a hot b*tch in IT. and i get yelled at for everything cuz it "can damage our equipment"

I think sometimes people will do the specific task that falls within the scope of their training, but are hesitant to step outside of their zone. There's nothing wrong with that, but then if an expert comes in to help, DO NOT ARGUE with them. Accept your limitations, benefit from the experience, then learn.

Then you won't get stabbed by the IT knife guy.
