i usually find the missing sock hiding/lying around somewhere. Either it fell out of the basket along the way and made a run for it, or it fell out on the way out and made a run for it.

Where we use to live in an apt building with public laundry, I usually get extra socks from people that either left it in the dryer or it somehow got wedge inside the washing machines. The 2 years we lived there, I must've found like 3 extra pairs. In the garbage it goes...
