The Ontario Government has introduced Bill 241 designed to improve road safety in the province. Hidden within Bill 241 is section 172.2 that will directly effect those of us who enjoy modifying vehicles. This section, introduced to stop illegal street-racing, is so vaguely worded it could ban all modified cars from Ontario roads.

In essence, if Bill 241 is passed as written, Ontario citizens will not be allowed to drive any vehicles that feature items on the government's 'Black List'. The vague wording of this section means that potentially any changes made to your vehicle may be deemed illegal once this bill has been passed.


If those items "commonly used in racing" are found on your vehicle you will be presumed guilty of street racing, and fined a minimum of $200 up to a maximum of $1,000; or receive up to 6 months in jail; or both. This is in addition to having those items removed from your vehicle and destroyed.

wait until F&F2 comes out, then they're really going to come after us even more because of the increased population of morons with souped up cars who drive like maniacs and race on the busiest streets like hwy 7

well the bill hasn't pasted yet since it only had it's first reading on december 12 2002. This bill will turn Ontario into something like Japan where they are not allowed to soup up cars either, thats why so many JDM engines end up in north america they can't sell them there so they sell them for cheap to exports to export from japan and import here. if a junk yard gets a car with a nice engine here in ontario once this law is passed then it'll be the same thing they'll have to export the engine else where to make any money. I don't think it will pass however everyone with MS word should be writting letters of concern not just to the MPP's but to CEO's of companies such as AEM, ground control, Koni, KYB, tokico, DC sports, and all the others inform them of the business they will lose if this law is passed in it's current state, and then see what they do, I'm sure if CEO's on companies breath down the backs of the MPPs the bill will be fixed to say something like "if your caught street racing you'll get jail time" (which won't bother me since I take it too the track). contact the companies, many a signed petition by TCC members sent out to all the performance companies will get the attention of the business people that can change the MPPs mind better then we could.
