Should I lower Or not?!?

Hi All,

I have been debating for the past two years whether or not I should lower my car. Last summer I bought my rims, 16", and I felt that I found there was too much space between my tires and body. Now obviously lowering it would look awesome, but is it worth it??

I ask if it is worth it because I drive my car all year long and we know how the road conditions can be, potholes and snow and so forth.

How much would it cost to lower my car (maybe 1 " or so) and what nuisances would be involved in driving a lowered car?

Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes....For sure!! There are no disadvantages to lowering your car about 1.5" other than ground clearance. If you can be good to your car on speedbumps and steep driveways, you'll do just fine. Good springs (Eibach Pro-Kit in your case) can be had for about $180USD + shipping + install. Install is $100 at most places, but it's so easy to do, you could prolly do it yourself. You're looking at about $500 after install and alignment. No one I know has ever complained about having a lowered car...it makes it more stable too (hence safer). Just don't slam it, which it sounds to me you are not trying to do. I think only Neuspeed has springs for 1" lowering, and those are called SofSport, but are totally not worth the effort and cost. The minimum I'd do are the Eibach Pro-Kit.

yes u should lower your car especially if u put 16" rims on your car otherwise your car is going to look like ***. Theres no point of putting rims on your car if your going to keep the stock height.
I can't believe u've been debating for 2 years to lower your car lol damn i hate stock height.
I believe your best bet is to buy coilovers for your car so u can jack it up in the winter like I did. I had my white rims in the summer lowered, i just jacked up my car really high for the winter and put steelies on it ad i have been driving everyday threw snow storms no problem , alot of my friends cars are not going anywhere lowered
With your car lowered expect your car to be more jumpy, much more comfortable driving with stock height. Watch out for pot holes, try avoiding them as much as possible or you can possibly bend your rims. Depending on your budget the better quality the better your ride is going to be, i recommend h and r's for lowering springs and skunk 2 for coilovers. Thats about it, hope this helps

Wow you've been debating 2 years to get it lowered? lol, That was one of the first thing on my list. I went with a mild drop (eibach sportlines).

I haven't noticed any adverse effects because of it, I can still drive in the winter perfectly with them, I've never been stuck on anything, or unable to go anywhere because of them. Your 1 inch drop sounds a lil small, 2 inches (which is somewhere what I got) would suit your car perfectly.

As for springs, I reccomend the Eibach Sportlines or Pro Kit, but I hear good things from the H & R springs as well..

if you're really worried about winter time then get coilovers. that way you can raise your car in the winter and lower it in the summer. just remember to constantly lubricate and clean them otherwise they'll seize up! (that's what happened to me)

Well - there actually are negative affects of lowering but they are at the expense of better cornering and stance.

Ride comfort can be compromised.
Stock shocks can be blown therefore dumping oil
Camber can be off therefore tires get worn incorectly

** These things all vary depending on the springs rates you use and the difference in ride height from stock

About...depending on how patient you are and if you want to buy local or can order from the US. Local tends to be way more expensive even after shipping, duty, and conversion. I've always gotten things from the US, but I get my used parts from Canada.

This is very true...

I just ordered some parts from the states, had them shipped to were I was on vacation and probably saved myself $1000.

i went with the OE Sport springs from H&R 0.75"-1" drop all around
i had 17"s and i couldnt tell the difference in ride quality at all.....and it looked wayyy better than stock height, even with such a small drop.

Yes, lower it! As long as you don't go slaming it down like 2.5" or more you should be fine. A 2" drop would be really nice!

Yes definately lower it. For me, the positive effects on lowering my car out weights the negative effects.

You can do it for cheaper....around $250 including install.

$115 Tax in for the coilovers.....and you could easily find a shop that can do it for Under $150 for the instal.

Read it all....then decide.

http://www.torontocivics.com/tccforu...threadid=10340

I have bought numerous sets already, for various friends ....(that are too lazy to go get them themselfs). All are very happy with the outcome.

ps....none of them lowered it more than 2". All was fine. Kept the stock strut. Save your cash.....unless you are VERY serious about performance, just get these. They do the job just fine.

It all fine and dandy, that you guys want him to spend mucho $$'s, but remember.....alot of people are in it for the "look".

My 2C's.

Actually Pulovr, using lowering spring's reducess the lifespan of a stock strut. Don't know how old his ride is or if the strut's are already going or gone. If his strut's arn't i don't know say 7 year's or have too many k's on them then yes he could get away with using the coilover's on them for now, probably.

I know that..........just like have "big" people in your car.

As long as they don't bounce......it should be fine.
