the best way to do it is KNOW WHATS REQUIRED TO CERTIFY the car.

basically then you search for a car that meets those requirements

it's just not a tax grab it's a grab for cash by shops too... some shops, while they know what is required to certify a car will check other stuff as welland demand that those items get fixed before they certify the car, ussually they tell you this with a phone call and also offer to do the service as well... the result is your away from the car and most people they know will say sure go ahead.

and they win because of it.

best thing to do is know whats needed, make sure thats done then visit a shop and if you get one of these calls where an item comes up thats not part of a safety, inform them you know it's not part of the safety and that should solve the issue

and if u can do most of it yourself..

IE put new brakes yourself, replace tie rods yourself, u get tires replaced at a tire shop... thenn go to a mechanic and get it certified..

whaaat? e-test is way easy.... cert depends on what kinda cockknocker you get... sometimes it's easy, and sometimes it's impossible. I don't take chances anymore - I do all the inspection myself, and then I go to a reliable source once I know I'm ready.
