"8" means "to earn money" in Chinese (especially in Cantonese), it rhymes with that particular word.
I have an eight in my plate, I didn't ask for it, the person assumed I wanted one so he did. If you had "8-ed", you wouldn't be driving a Civic :P haha
That pretty much gives it away that the owner of the vehicle is Asian

haha, the numbers on the pics are all fake GoldBadge, I thought it's better than just white-out the whole plate 
I do have an "8" in my real plate number... but it's just totally random tho, the car dealer got it for my first car back then. None of the ppl in that dealer was Asian and it's not a "Asian" town per say so I doubt they *tried* to get a "8"
On a similar story, my mom have a driving license but she never really needs to drive. And she also said she doesn't want to coz partly her license number ends with "9413".... anyone can guess what that means?

When I go and get the license for my car, the lady was nice enough to find a plate with an "8" in it for me~
