legit engine?

Can anyone tell me exactly what it is you need to have to prove a swapped engine is yours, and legit ? I want to buy a jdm motor from a Japanese Parts shop, but they are telling me that all they give you is a business card with the engine serial number, sale price, date of sale, and person sold to, written on the back. So in other words if pulled over and a cop is suspicious of whats under the hood, you just show the cop the card, he phones them up, and verifies the engine number with them. Is this O.K. ?

dude, no cop is gonna waste his time doing that, unless they have other reasons too.

yes the business card is sufficient, as long as they wrote the serial# on the card ure safe......

What's preventing a would be engine thief from getting some cards and writing on them?

dude, i'm saying this obvioulsy assuming that he went into a shop and got this, not in someone bakyard.

and besides, cops need alot more then the seria# thats below the engine code to trace anything.

Just do your research before buying and if the price is 2good 2b true, then dont buy.

Not much, I guess!
I would have thought that a bill of sale with money paid, taxes paid and a sig. would be needed to be legit, just like every other lagitamate sale!?

I have a copy of my receipt with the engine serial # I keep with me.
About all I can do to prove it.

agh you can go to Grand and toy and get yourself a pad of recipts.

Hell I can write you up a recipt for anyone's engine.

I'm just saying, is that all you really need? It doesn't really prove anything.

FYI you don't even have to pop your hood for cops. If they ask you to pop your hood then ask them why? If they say "I just wanna see what you have in there" (the typical answer) just tell them that unfortunetly that's not a good enough reason and that they are wasting your time. They can NOT force you to pop your hood unless your caught street racing or something.

I feel sorry for any rookie trying to give me ****...

Don't know if this counts but I grabbed a copy of the owners registration w/ VIN and a hand written receipt for sale of the motor.

I agree we shouldn't have to "prove" that we bought our engine legit, but you're better off co-operating like Rice Burner says.
I'm sure it would help if the receipt has the name of the shop you bought it from.
But you always gotta watch out for that cop on a power trip...
