I want to buy an SI but should i get a waranty?
Okay, I just want to know what others think about this, a 2001 Honda SI with only 60,000 km on it. Warranty is pretty much up because its a 5 year old car. My parents insist on getting a waranty because they consider the car old and its only 01, they say any car can break down. However its very clean, one owner no accidents, low km. I say screw waranty, its a honda! It will last. Any thoughts??

I would too. When I bought my 98, it only had 44000k's on it. Because it was over 5 years old, no warranty was left though. The extended warranty I got with the car from Honda was $1200 I think but it was good until 120000k's.

well just for perspective.. i bought my 01 civic from ready honda, it comes with
a) the remainder of the drivetrain warrantee plus
b) 2 years i think?
c) option to buy "bumper-to-bumper warantee" for around $2000, with the condition that if you don't use the warranty after the coverage period, you get 100% of what you paid for it back.
i got the bumper to bumper, only to find out that it's not actually bumper to bumper, but covers A LOT LESS. so if i want my gas tank door cable fixed i have to pay out of pocket, despite what the ****ing guy told me when i got it (he said ANYTHING, even a button cover, would be covered). so it's just money in the bank, but without interest.
in other words, get the drivetrain, and risk the rest, unless you think there is a fair chance something like your air conditioning could break and you don't want to pay for it.

You can get money back for not using your warranty?
When I got my 00 SiR I got the extended warranty I think I paid another $1600 ish and never used it. I was over my KM in about 1.5yrs after getting my SiR.
This is something I'm going to check into hopefully within the next couple of week.

I WOULDNT - Honda warranty is a waste of money!
i bet no problems will be had with your car!
when i bought my SIR i got a good deal but they dropped the warranty, good enough for me, saves me 9bills
and what is warranty work? how many recalls on Honda's are there realistically... Honda has some good quality to back up there cars,
tell you the truth - warranty is a waste... i bought it for my 02 civic, waste of money.... WASTE WASTE WASTE.... if you buy a lemon like Chevy's where gaskets are going and Dodge Neons with AC condensers and sunroofs BUY IT!
for a HONDA... save your cash!
take it from me.....

Well I found a 98 si for around 10500 now at a honda dealership. And was about to make a deal but didnt sign anything, told him i needed to take a break and come back later. He wanted to negotiate a price for the car, says im charge an admin fee, like 299 and gas 30. He tried to bargain with the waranty like take 2000 off the listprice and add it back, so I pay the same but with bumper to bumper waranty. Dont know exactly what is covered but he did mention a/c. I dont know what to do, I was thinking of offering 9500 with no waranty and just risk it. It also only had 59,000 km

i dont consider warranty worth it unless its really cheap.
the most expensive thing that can go wrong is motor or tranny
considering how cheap these are (plus all parts r pretty much very cheap) i think warranties arent really worth it.

i believe that you have to pay for convenience everywhere...but the amount that the dealers charge is rediculous. As Harsh said...unless it is a reasonable price....there is no point.
I bought my civic back in 2002 with 54K on it...today it has 104K and not a single problem whatsoever. Small problems can be fixed relatively easily....you have the TCC as an excellent resource to find answers for your daily car questions....u know...
Its a sheer waste of money....and specially...on a reliable car like Honda Civic.

not worth it IMO... you probably won't have any problems in the next 5 years.... after all, its really a honda, nothing much can go wrong... save that 1500-2000$, invest it in some plans to earn some extra interests!!!, just use it when emergency really happens for the car... its very slim chance you need anything to repair below 120,000 km

well i do realize the difference between a recall and warranty work! ( i got lazy to type OK )
its really up to you, for me i wouldnt do it... thats all... your cash, and if it givesu that sense of secuirty by all means... do what makes you feel right, but remember cars will go through wear and tear... 59,000kms is nothing... its practically a baby!
do yourself a favour.. buy a civic and enjoy the money u saved,,,
