Help Needed

Hey ..went to do a brake service today and snapped my wheel lock key.... Does anyone have a MCgard Wheel lock key... i guess the shop used the gun on it and ****ed up the inside... I know theres hundreds of designs.... which sucks... but if anyone has it that i can borrow just to remove the 4 lugs so i can replace them with a new set...

some elses key is not going to work with ur lug
u risk damaging that key, then there might be 2 people without a key for the lugs

your going to have to get creative to get that off... and chances are u might damage ur rim

let this be a lesson... if u spend the money on rims u can spend the money and get even better locking lugs (ie. Work or Rays)

Shop employees are famous for damaging the keys with their guns...I don't know why it's so hard for them not to check that the key is properly in place and use a torque limiting stick or torque wrench before they blast it to pieces.

I don't know how bad your key is damaged....but if it's stripped and catching a bit you can apply pressure one the lugs when loosening the with a gun...and sometimes you can get them off (as least this is what I was able to do for someone once).

Otherwise I think their's a number or code thing you can use to get another key (but this I don't know for sure). Otherwise you truly will have to get creative.

Yea the numbers for mcgards are on the paperwork... which is long lost.... Ill weld a nut on and remove them if needed.... but im not going to damage anyone elses key... They only made X ammount of designs... not like this is a one off.. they obviously made 1000 or more of this design.. as well as 1000 or more of each other design. its just a matter of if someone else has this same style as I do or not.. but its worth a try ....

the likeliness that someone might have the same design is slim, another option would be to drill them off, thats how what the mazda dealership did when they damaged the key to lugs on my parent's mazda 6. but that might damage the rim a bit around the hole area

some lock nuts you can get lucky with and hammer a socket onto it and slowly remove it with a socketwrench and prybar.
