i agree with bbarbulo that you dont need to run higher octane if your engine is basically stock! Do what the manufacturers recommend and stick to that.

I do. But then again, mine requires it! If it didnt, I wouldnt see a point in spending the extra money for basically something thats not doing much!

Just my opinion.....

OT: Neil if ure reading this...do you workout at IFF??

And I didn't know if there was a way to determine that you are getting what you pay for!
Fuel consumption has nothing to do with the quality of fuel. (or at least certainly not so much that it would be worth the extra money). You can't get 110% performance or economy from 94 octane gas when compared to 87 octane, yet the price is 10% almost. You may see the computer trimming back -2, or -3% on 94 gas, but that's so minor, it's not even funny. Not at like 95 cents a liter anyways. Basically... you have a stock fuel gauge, right? That sonofabitch just gives you a minor idea of how much fuel you have left...it has nothing to do with how much gas you go through. Like mine...the needle won't move from full for the first 100-110 kms... but I get 400-450 kms/tank, so after 100 kms I SHOULD be showing 3/4 left, correct? So, you can't gauge by that how much gas you use on a daily basis. The way to do it, is to drive consistently for a week, and every day, take note of kms travelled, weather conditions, and then fill it up every day and keel the receipt. At the end, match up consumption and liters put in... and it should be pretty consistent. Otherwise, you have a dying sensor somewhere that's giving mixed signals. Also weather and speed have a lot do with fuel consumption....like if I'm driving into a headwind on the highway, I get 300-350 kms a tank as opposed to my 400 average. You feel me??? haha

is it true that JDM engines require 94 octane all the time?

Because we import only high performance JDM motors normally, then YES! High compression needs high octane.

I normally wear blue nike track pants with blue line down them 90% of the time and 98% of the time have a sweater on , except when training bi's and tri"s

I would n't say I am huge but I am not tiny as well

In japan they have 100+octane...
I was told that only 94+ octane is to be used on high compression moters such as any jdm, usdm sir and gsr or modified moters...etc...
On any other regular moter your just waisting your money and losing power.
BTW I tried Esso and the car ran like ****...

i'm telling you guys, petro is the next best besides sunoco i guess......i mean what could be better than a type of gas that cleans as you drive?

additive tactrol rules! ;-)

If you guys want me to be honest..
I don't notice ANY difference between any of the gas and octane. I ran 500 km per tank in supreme, and 500 km per tank in bronze. I drive a D17A1 engine and the compression is 9.5:1

I don't believe any gasoline is different from each other. They're refined similarly. Even tarsands are refined the similarly.

And JSK is probably right. Petro Canada supplies gas for a lot of places. 7-11 gas stations get their gas from Petro Canada BTW.

Lately because the weather's been getting warmer and my windows don't fog up as much, I've turned the A/C off.. and I get 37 mpg.. In the winter I use to get 32 mpg cuz the A/C is on... ANd it's the SAME with surpreme and bronze. If somebody can show me exactly what they mean that their engine runs like ****.. I'll be amazed. It could be because you guys are biased slightly toward a gas station so you guys think it's running like ****.

The above is for my Civic.

Lets move on to more expensive cars.. My father drives a Lexus LS400. It runs on premium fuel only. (never tried bronze.. never will). He fills up with anything.. and occasionally I'll take the car for a spin cuz I need my "**** and giggles"... and to be honest.. he can gas up with Petro, Sunoco, or Esso and I notice ABSOLUTELY no difference in the acceleration. NOTHING at all.
So if you guys can show me that it makes a difference in your engine power, please tell me.. cuz I think a V8 4.0 Liter engine produces more power than our ~1.6 L engines and is a bit more sensitive on the gasoline contents.

Another thing.. I gas up with Petro and Esso... cuz I get Esso Points.. and Petro Points. FREE CAR WASHES. Esso's touchless car washes are great. They get the dirt and grit off your car without touching it.

I have noticed that lower octane are better in performance, but not as smooth in operation.

Did you guys know that Mobil 1 owns Esso, Exxon etc...? Check it out at their web site (mobil 1). The first few posts said that there was water and sulfur in it, damn those gas people. Wondering anyone knows of any labs that tests the quality of fuel, that can confirm this? Just wanted to know.

Nospleeny ... during the summer I did a test ... I ran 87 octane and kept a 2 liter gas can with 94 octane in it... highway driving I got 619.5 KM to the tank filled with 87 before it crapped out... I then filled the tank with the reserve 94 and found a sunoco that was close (I had this planed) and filled up with 94 to the brim... I got 497.6 KM to the tank on the 94 before it craped out

SO... what does that mean? Your engine works better with lower octane gasoline?

That doesn't prove what others say that Esso gasoline makes your engine run like ****... heh
