I can't stand being in the passenger seat. I don't care who is driving.. I hate the Idea of having no control over what is happening around me.

After the many years of racing my car, I really need to have control. I'm not comfortable giving up control to someone else. I might not be the best driver there is. but the skills I've learnt (and they are learnt skills, no one has natural skills) have enabled me to avoid numerous accidents and keep my head on my shoulders. I don't like it when someone else is in control.

driving comes naturally to me...but only in my own car. i know what my car is capable of and i know what i'm capable of with my car...so i can be aggressive without being reckless...you kinda have to be if you have to drive in downtown t.o. everyday. but i'm a backseat driver when i'm a passenger...i cant stand being a passenger...i cant stand not being in control.

I love driving, but honestly don't mind being a passenger with someone who is a natural driver...if they're good, I can just ease into the passenger seat, not blink an eye as they drive confidently with nary a care. I just love it when I know someone has firm control of the car.

some ppl scare the crap outta me when they drive. their driving is glitchy, unsure, hesitant. my mom is one of these people. I've driven anything from a suzuki swift to a 24 foot cube van, I feel at home in anything.

the best driver on TCC that I've driven with is JookSingKid. we could be at any speed in any weather and I'd still be sippin my coffee like we were sitting at a stop light. very comfortable, very aware driver, constantly looking well down the road, anticipating traffic flow, aware of parked cars or ppl coming out of driveways etc... he is one with the car. I'm the same way, maybe that's why his driving puts me at ease.

I love this point. Anticipating traffic flow. Anybody can get behind a wheel. Driving is more than just getting in and go, go fast, handling the car. If there was no other cars on the road, most of us would be better drivers. Anticipating other people and being aware of your surroundings when driving is also very key and I think most people lack or choose to ignore. Too many times have I encountered people either cutting in on me at the last minute or making an unexpect bone head move that you just have to develop a sense of other drivers on the road, not to mention jay walkers!

Driving in T.O. is one thing, but try driving in Montreal the first few years of your driving tenure!

i've driven in quebec...friggin crazys...all of y'all. they're just reckless. hehehe.

one key characteristic of a good driver is being able to read body language...knowing ahead of time what moves the drivers around you are going to make. all cars (drivers) give body language.

oh and one more thing, brake happy drivers = bad drivers. i hate it when ppl brake for no reason...like that's how they drive...accelerate, breake...accelerate, brake and so on. fyi, if you lay off the accelerator, the car will automatically slow down. i love driving behind other drivers that only brake when necessary...i usually stick behind these kind of drivers b/c their driving behaviour is more predictable = good driver

Agree with above post, quebec drivers are out of their f*cking minds.

I'll get flamed for this, but I think MOST women are just not meant to be drivers. They drive safe when all is good, but in emergency situations or when anything differs from normal driving patterns, they seem lost.

Again, this is from my experiences with women drivers and I know there are some really good ladies driving out there too.

I think it has to do with men's INTERESTS in driving as opposed to most women's NEED to drive.

Because who are we kidding, we don't need 200hp in our civics.

But we love cars and all aspects of driving and tuning and whatnot, and therein lies the difference I think.

There are only a few people I feel comfortable driving with, most of the time I find my feet digging into the floor for clutch/brake and notice my hand clutching the door arm rest..I find a lot of people lack the ability to perceive speed and distance and are unable to keep collected under certain situations which I find is the worst.

On the other hand with my friend Matt he could be breaking the speed of sound on the highway and I would have no problem dozing off.

Ontario drivers are just as bad, if not worse. I grew up in Montreal and have lived here for 18 years now, and one thing that Quebecors do that so many people in Ontario don't do is if they are in the fast lane and somebody is behind them going faster, they get out of their way. Quebec has lots of places that you need to use parrallel parking and other driving capabilities that are not use or lossed here in Ontario.

This is just my opinion and observation from living in both places. Also, in Quebec, you CANNOT get a license without a certificate from a drivng school, its mandatory!

I think for sure some people are naturals. I like a bunch of people already said dont like being a passenger for most people. With my dad tho we could be going fast as hell weaving around people, and i wouldnt even think about it, but with my mum going 10K under i hold onto the door and am nervous.

Haha, thats funny and remided me how my mom was when I got my license many many many years ago. She use to warn me of the stop signs coming up way before I was anywhere near them. Use to annoy the crap out of me! LOL

What killed me was, when she came up to visit, I had to pick her up at the train station, I was concerned with the car lowered and the stiff suspension, she wouldn't be comfortable in the car.........

She LOVED IT, she said the car drove great. I didn't even ask her, she just made the comment.

Who would have thunk??

She also likes my dads car which has stiff suspention.

I once joked with someone that I liked the look of the back of a person's hands on the steering wheel. It's more the way the person looks when they're sitting behind the wheel of the car, and you know that they're strong and in control. One of my friends...when you drive with him, absolutely no worries...natural-born driver, he just feels the road.

When passengers ride with me I constantly get comments that they feel very safe. I know of a few who don't feel comfortable driving (especially on the highway) with others but confess to feeling fine with me. So I could be a natural born driver, but im a little to modest to make that claim...
