ticket on the way to work

i was driving to work and i got pulled over for passing a school bus that "supposedly" had its red lights flashing.....

the thing is, he didnt have his lights on till i was like 2 feet from the bus..... then he turned them on..... what was i supposed to do??? slam on my brakes and slide to a stop 4 car lengths past the bus?? so i just went.......i interpreted it as a yellow light situation, didnt have time to stop safely, so i didnt

do you think i stand a chance of getting it dropped if i fight it???

If it actually went down like you said where bus didn't turn on the lights until really late, then I can see your point.

BUT... if you were that close behind the bus to begin with, hopefully you shouldn't be travelling at any speed requiring more than a light feathering of the brakes to come to a stop. Secondly, if the bus was at a complete stop, even without the red lights... I would have been extra careful in suspecting that the lights were about to come out.

Not trying to rag on you, man, I just have to be honest about these things.

This is something that you should talk to a paralegal for.

There are some good ex-cops who can really help you out.

Oh, you were opposite the bus when it whipped out the lights/stop sign? I see... my bad, I assumed you were behind it. In that case, sounds like you did the right thing, and hopefully you can get your ticket cleared.

That happened to me once a year or so ago. I was driving on a country road in the opposite direction of the school bus. I was about 2 feet from her bumper and she turned on her lights (the kids I guess were in the house because there weren't any around for me to think that the bus was going to stop). I continued on too. She shot me the dirtiest look. I was thinking "do you think I can stop on a dime or something?" Luckily there wasn't a police officer around to make their own judgment. All she had to do was turn the lights on a little bit earlier and I would have stopped within the proper boundaries.

Yeah Jay, this ticket I would fight. Talk to some people, get your ducks in a row - yadda yadda yadda. 100% I'd contest it.
