Speed Traps

This post is to warn other drivers about speed traps...Just let others know about the speed traps you know of in Toronto, Sauga, Scarborough etc...

Toronto:

Landsdowne - just below Dundas, Cops are clocking cars on both sides of the bridge there (just south of the old **** hill farms)

Lakeshore - between Jameson and Parkside, cops clock you in both directions...
eastbound - cops are hidden in parking lot up the hill where traffic starts side by side (no island)
westbound - just a bit further west than the spot metioned above...

Lakeshore is my route to school and i always see atleast 3 cars pulled over on my way to and from school, everyday...it's rediculous

Those are the only two i can think of right now and believe me, those spots are consistant.

Just thought we could help each other out by letting each other know about particular traps we are familiar with, especially since summer is almost here, please if a mod can sticky this, that would be great, thanks

how about dont speed...LOL...cops are everywhere there is high traffic throughout the day...all up and down lakeshore from Mississauga through to Toronto, Dundas from 9th Line through to Toronto

anytime during rush hour they like to patrol on/off ramps for line jumpers and shoulder riders

just drive smart and safe and there are no worries

Absolutely. Let's ****** the word on radar locations, especially in residential and park areas, so all Honda owners can speed with impunity in places where children and bicyclists and just plain old pedestrians do their thing. After all, we should be able to go as fast as we want without interference, and to hell with anyone else.

So here's my contribution to the speed trap listings...

1) Any street or expressway in the GTA where police cruisers with moving two-way radar are able to drive or park.

2) Any street or expressway in the GTA where a cop can park their cruiser off the road and set up theor laser radar tripod.

3) Any street or expressway in the GTA where unmarked traffic division ghost cars can determine your speed just by pacing you.

There. I think that just about covers it. Now go forth and speed to your heart's content. There'll be no stopping you now, at least as long as you have demerit point room, money for insurance, and you haven't killed someone.

wow, i'm not encouraging DANGEROUS driving. can you guys honestly say that you're always driving the speed limit? i got clocked on landsowne doing 57 in a 40 (late night with no cars no children, elderly people...pedestrians period) was i being unsafe? no...i wasn't speading at 3 in the afternoon outside an elementary school. i'm not telling you guys to do 100+ on a side street, i'm not telling you guys to peel out at cross walks by old folks homes...speeding tickets is not meant to stop dangerous drivers, speeding tickets are for revenue, if you don't believe that then your blind...driving at really high speeds is more dangerous in hazardous conditions (ie snow, hail, rain) than it is on a nice sunny day...but when are cops out there with radar guns? mostly on nice sunny days...why is that? why aren't they out there on rainy days when speeding would be much more dangerous? why do cops have quotas each month they must reach? well thats an easy question...money to the government. last year they made 600 million+ from ticket fines...**** cops and they're speed traps. they want to catch you and don't give a **** about your safety. i'm not trying to tell people to speed to your hearts content, i merely saying that most of us do speed, and are still safe drivers. we know and when and when not to speed, we know how to not drive dangerously...please people, anyone on this forum who always drives the limit say aye. guarenteed there will be a lot more nay sayers. i guess cynikal and motti are sunday drivers, so this thread doesn't concern you. anyone who wants to contribute to this thread please do,

Speeding fines are intended to be a deterrent. That they also generate a bit of revenue is just a bonus.

I don't know where you got the figure $600 million. Toronto's net revenue after court, administration, and collection costs are accounted for is around $1 million or so, which is chump change compared to the overall city budget.

They do run radar in bad weather, but they also have to use the same cops that would be running the radar to investigate accidents that rise in number during bad weather.

Landsdowne has people out on it at all hours of the day or night. You don't know when some drunk is going to stumble out onto the street at night, and at night Landsdowne usually has no shortage of them. Besides, you don't get to decide at what hours the speed limit is no longer valid.

Your assertion that "we know and when and when not to speed" is ridiculous. Were it true, we would NEVER see speeding tickets issued in 40 km school zones ever. We would never see tickets issued for doing double the limit down Queen St W in Parkdale. But those things happen every day. The threat of being picked off by radar must be there to act as a deterrent to those who would join the race.

The speed limits in the city are the lines in the sand. Those lines have to be there because without them, the streets would descend into rank anarchy as each driver determines what they think is "safe" for themselves based on their own personal, subjective, vanity-based assessment of their driving and vehicle capabilities. You cross those lines at your peril, for those lines are there in an attempt to limit the peril you may pose to others.

That estimate is based on a lot of suppositions and a lot of "ifs". It's more speculation based on opinion than it is fact.

That estimate, as unreliable as it is, is also for all of Ontario. $50 million on a provincial basis is still peanuts.

Regardless, if the intent of speeding tickets was solely to generate revenue, Ontario wouldn;t bother with a demerit point schedule. After all, to maximize revenue, you want to keep ticket-gathering motorists out on the roads, and not sitting at home while under license suspension.

I'll say it again - the primary reason for fines is to serve as a deterrent, and not simply as a revenue generator. That "some" revenue is seen after admin/court/collection expenses are paid is just a bonus, but not the raison d-etre.

1. Eglinton west bound past Don Mills

2. Ossington south bound just north or College (there is a lane way where they park their cruiser and they stand behind one of the many light poles so you cant see them)

3. Allen Rd. north bound where Lawrence exit is AND on the south bound side also where Lawrence exit is

Highway 27 north of Eglington.

Went through there last night with a friend. As he was passing under the bridge I told him to slow down for a possible radar trap and sure enough there was a blacked out cruiser waiting on the shoudler behind some construstion. He takes off after some guy ahead of us and I see 3 near accidents as people change lanes because theres a cop with cherries coming up behind them. The guy he pulled over was moving with traffic in a pack.

Public safety my ***. The guy who was swerving in and out of his lane kept on cruising doing the speed limit and driving horribly.
