Yes you can get a ticket for running a yellow light

Specially if the light was yellow and you had time to stop but instead booked it... A cop will not likely put you over if you couldnt stop and had to go throught a yellow light. But if he saw you had more than enough time to stop but instead decided to run it , then he will pulled you over and give you a ticket

I have a mix opinion about this , since i hate when i m turning left and people still keep running through yellow / red lights leaving you stock ... and at the sametime I go through yellow lights very often. However if i see people are turning left or if i have enough time to stop then i ll stop and let the people turning left go ...

You can probably get it reduced ... I seen tons of people getting tickets for it , i even got pulled over for beating a yellow light while making a left turn , but i just got a warning , fair enough ( i was already half way pass the line).....

I would go to court, and say that it was infact possible to stop, but not safely as the person behind you was following very closely, and slamming the brakes would result in a collision.
If the person directly behind you was the cop, you can say that the officer was tailgating you, basically pushing you to pull the light, so again, you felt it was unsafe to stop according to the situation. You didnt mention weather or not the ticket was today..if it was raining, I'd print out the weather report to prove roads were wet so you were driving according to weather conditions.

I'm no lawyer, but thats my opinion on it..

^^ Good suggestion.

Just the other day I had my court date for running a red while making a left.
Cop was directly behind me and due to a slow moving flat bed truck in front of me, I'll admit I did go through it. The cop said I could have reversed, (into his vehicle I thought to myself) but whatever. He gave me the ticket. $180.00 (3 demerits - I think)

Went to court and had it reduced to an 'improper left hand turn' - $85 + $20 (Victim Service Charge) + $5 (tax I guess) = $110.00 and no demerits

I told the court officer that files the claims (on the court date) my explanation as to why I went through, he said the court would just see it as excuse and said to me that if I take the stand I have to prove that I didn't commit the offense. Like I said. Admittedly I did... so I took the plea.
