Project Erase - Guidelines... Mods/fines/HTA links

http://www.yorkregionsavealife.com/Erase/side.htm

I just came across this site. It has some guidlines that car enthusiasts should follow.

I think this should be stickied.

DumbasSi has added the actual info at the bottom of the page. It contains a list of popular mods, information regarding those mods, fines you might receive for them and links to the corresponding HTA section.

I want to install a DVD player or TV in the dash of this car
A modification of this type may be illegal. Driving with distractions such as video games, movies and TV shows is very dangerous. GPS navigation systems, electronic truck logs, courier and police dispatching systems are examples of permitted use of TVs.

This helps me out a bit but...

I want to remove the door handles on this car
No Problem. Just how do you expect emergency services to get you out of your car in the event of a crash?

So is there a way to fix this problem, can it be done or no?

i wonder if you could have a system hooked up similar to what triggers the air bag (wouldn't want to mess with that system!) where your door poppers go off if you crash.

I know this is tough, but think real hard.

You've just had a big booboo and now your car is hurtling towards an object you really don't want to hit but are going to anyways.

You hit, the air bags go off to protect you from the first moment of impact which is also likely to provide the greatest impact force. Now your door poppers go off too because your air bag went off.

The only problem is, your car is still hurtling down the road after that first impact, maybe on its way to a stop but maybe also on its way to its next impact, or maybe even on a barrel-roll while it makes up its mind where you;re going to end up next.

So now your automatic door poppers hooked up to your air bags have just released your doors so you can become part of the compost that your car is shredding on its way to a stop at a point yet to be determined.

Shaved door handles are just plain stupid on a car that you intend to use as transportation. Maybe a fireman will still be able to get in quick enough, but how long until they arrive at the scene of an accident, a car fire, a car submerging? At least with regular door handles you at least have a chance that bystanders armed only with their hands may be able to get in if necessary to perform CPR or even extract you from a car that would otherwise become your death trap by the time fire rescue arrives.

I totally agree with you. If your car caught fire and you were knocked out by the impact and you were by yourself, who would get you out? Most likely someone would stop and try and help, most people dont carry anything that could break a window.

Dont carry anything to break a window? Try using your foot! That will work, if not, get a tire iron in your trunk.

Im not supporting shaved handles, I think their are aboustly pointless. Such a small detail to worry about. It would be wiser to spend that money somewhere else.

Just wanted to illustrate my point, just in case someone one day has to break a window, and their elbow is not up to the task, Im sure there is something that could be done.
