Insuring your modified vehicle from out of province
Can anybody shed some light on this procedure? All I know is that any out-of-province vehicle needs to have both and e-test and a safety test done first. I'm wondering if I'll have problems... here are a list of my mods:
1993 Civic Hatchback (D16Z6)
78,XXX kms
Performance Mods:
Jackson Racing Supercharger @ 6PSI boost
Jackson Racing High-flow fuel pump
Apex-i World Sport exhaust
DC Sports stainless 4-2-1 header
Straight-pipe
Apex-i V-AFC fuel controller (to be installed)
- Note about engine bay: no valve cover breather return hose to intake
Suspension Mods:
Skunk 2 coilover sleeves
Koni Yellow adjustable shocks
Body Mods:
Wings West "W" Front Bumper
Denji Projector Headlights
Clear Corners w/amber bulbs
So far, I've figured out that in order for me to register the car in Ontario (from BC), I need to get both tests done. From there, I got to find an insurance company, and then after that, I need to take that insurance policy to get my plates (from where, I dunno?)
Prior to the testing, I'm probably gonna do the following:
- Reinstall my stock catalytic converter
- Lean out my fuel by adjusting the V-AFC
- Reinstall stock bumper for safety test
- Reinstall stock amber corners
With the above mods...I'm wondering if I'll have problems:
- passing the e-test with the engine mods listed
- passing the safety test with the suspension mods listed
- passing the safety test with the body mods listed
- finding and insurance company to insure my vehicle with the modifications to the engine and suspension?
Anybody with any advice would be greatly appreciated!

i don't think the bumpers or amber corners will be a problem
the plastic on the bumper is just superficial, it's not a safety issue, i don't think the body mods or suspension will be a problem, i've seen cars in horrible condition that IMO should've failed the safety barely pass.... find out which sections of the HTA the safety is conducted on and then look at your car and do it as you see fit.... my paper is in the car but i know on my safety i got when i bought it mentions certain sections of the HTA which they have certified to have met the requirements off...
correct me if i'm wrong anyone..
and e-test i have no clue i'll leave it for a more techy guy to talk about!
good luck

By straight pipe I assume you mean you have no cat, if so, you probably won't pass the drive clean emissions test (e-test). You may also fail the emissions pre-test inspection for the missing breather hose. You also risk some rather large $ tickets from the cops if you are pulled over for having no cat or breather return hose.

I dont think you will have any probelms with the inspection because my buddy bought an Integra that was lowered and had an exhaust, and it passed but needed new brakes in the front to make it pass. The only problem I think your gonna have is passing emissions test. He had a JDM B16 and an 5zigen exhaust on the car and it failled really bad. So he brought it somewhere else and they got it to pass

lol...is that a really big problem over here? =) Okay okay...it's cool.
But...as the original message states...I'm trying to pass LEGITAMATELY. Maybe I should rephrase the question to...
Do you know of any good shops that do emissions testing for modified cars that make recommendations/repairs on site if needed.
(So like...a shop that has good experience with modified cars...I don't wanna go to some chump that don't know what their doing...I'm sure that goes for everybody).
