I don't really know what to do.
Unless you've already got tickets on your record, this one shouldn't affect your rates either.

You can try fighting it but it's mostly going to come down to the defence you plan on using. If your sole hope is that the cop doesn't show, well that doesn't happen much any more. A cop who doesn't show for trial had better have a really good reason or he's going to be answering to his superiors.

Whatever you do is up to you. You're going to have to balance the time and trouble of fighting that ticket against the chances of actually winning that fight and any benefit actually incurred if you win.

Also, with Crowns starting to amend charges up more often, you'll also have to weigh the potential for making the penalty even worse by fighting it. In your case, if the charge is amended from the original 15 over back up to 25 over, your base fine on conviction will go up from $37.50 plus court costs to $93.75 plus courts costs. On top of that, the victim surcharge on your fine will go up from $10 to $20, and demerit points up from 0 to 3 points.

I've had tickets in past and have successfully fought a couple that I truly did not believe were justified, but the ones I did deserve I paid. If it was me and I was actually speeding at the time, I'd take at that ticket discount for the gift it was, pay it and be on my way. Maybe it's just a small town thing, but quite frankly I'd be quite embarrassed facing the cop in court while trying to get out of what both he and I knew I had done. It would just seem rather slimy and weasel-like.

You're right, there are situations where you can be held partially or wholly at fault if you get rear-ended, but these usually require a bad act of your own instigating the crash.

I was commenting on situations where you get rear-ended due to no fault or instigating action of your own.

The big point really is that people should know about how insurance works in Ontario. It's not really that complicated. You mention the Fault Determination Rules, which is a big part of the picture. Another part is how deemed fault affects who pays for the damage to your car even when you don't have collision insurance. The final part is the effect of different types of claims (comprehensive damage, at-fault collisions, not-at-fault collisions) on your insurance rates.

There seems to be widespread fear that any claim at all will cause rates to skyrocket and that simply is not true. If people would understand those three fairly simple things, it would save a lot of grief that people fall into by trying to avoid involving their insurance companies at all costs. There seems to be widespread fear that any claim at all will cause rates to skyrocket and that simply is not true.

Yo guys!
I have done some research on the subject, the MTO does not require update of registration license for the vehicle. Therefore vehicles do not require to be re-registered as modified, unless you are changing VIN of vehicle frame, etc.
When it comes to engines they have to be not stolen, boosted or supercharged for performance purposes, when you finish your swap you must get a safety cert and emissions cert, and notify the insurance of your car repairs.
Keep your receipts for parts in your files, and be responsible as any offense naturally raises the insurance.

My Score: Clean

that doesnt mean anything. Did you actually go and tell them you swap a b20 engine in there.

Becareful td is like the worst insurance company when it comes to mods.

They dont even take lowered cars ! .... and I already ask about swaps , unless is the same engine they can cancel your insurance.

It does not matter, B20 is still 4 cylinder, not considered a performance upgrade, unless you say it is so. I noted that my itr b18 is a replacement of my D15 because it broke and the mechanic recommended me the b18 because its more economical and reliable

no considered a performance upgrade???

LOL

you may want to call your insurance and ask if putting a DOHC engine in a SOHC car is not a performance upgrade.... In that case you may as well ask them if putting a type r engine ( 4 cylinder) is not a performance upgrade...

I may agree that putting a d16y8 in a d16y7 may be ok , or you may get away with it.

Depending on what accident you are involved in , insurance may cancel your policy for swaping engines. I called many companies and I still havent found one that is ok with engine swaps. And td is one of the less friendly companys out there when it comes to mods , so if you want to risk it , sure go for it ... But dont complain if you get caught ..

Chances of getting caught and cancel by the insurance are not high but if you are involved in an accident and speed was a factor ( and people for injured) you may as well get a lawyer ...

Remember insurance is a business and if they can find a way to reject your claim they will , engine swap, turbos , etc are in the cancellation category...

"D15 because it broke and the mechanic recommended me the b18 because its more economical and reliable"

lol , sure tell that to your insurance company and then get back to me ..

You may agree or disagree, but as long you use that kind of advanced terminology while making your quote you will get it up to cooch obviously!

"Remember insurance is a business and if they can find a way to reject your claim they will"

They will look for a reason to reject claims in any situation no matter the mods, but you're right they are a business and for sure they do not want to cancel policies and loose the money!

This is why they conduct client due diligence, and as long you speak rice to them your subjected.

Watch what you say and do to stay outta trouble!

my point is it is very easy to lie to the insurance company , they dont know your car and they probably dont even know how a honda civic engines looks like. They can take a picture of whats under my hood and i could have a turbo ITR engine in there and they probably wont even notice .

Problem is once you have a claim and depending on the severity of the accident , they may look under your hood and if they find you have a performance upgrade ( yes an engine is a performance upgrade if its not stock) they will more than likely deny your claim and cancel your policy

Easy way out is dont tell them and they won bother you. I may even put a type r in my civic , but I dont race on the streets so my chances of getting caught by the insurance are low, however I can t say the same for a lot of punks racing on the streets.

One thing that pisses me off is that even if you want to tell the insurance company that you want a turbo in your car they wont take you. So you have no choice but not tell them

I told my insurance company I am planning to repair my vehicle as the engine has gone bad and the mechanic recommended me a fuel efficient and reliable 1.8 L engine

i find that hard to believe. but if you are not racing and driving normal then i dont really sée a chance of getting in trouble. however keep in mind that your agent may have made a mistake or he may not know about engine swaps. if you have an si and you told them u replace an sir engine they may of thought it was the same engine just from a different trim mod
