First Ticket: 34 Over :(

Driving down eglington at about 10pm and got booked at 94 km/h in a 60 zone . Now does anyone know the ligalities of what I should do. The ticket is 127$ and three points. The police offer told me to fight it and they will usually drop it down but I also heard if the officer does not show up I get cleared?...Just trying to get some info...all help is appreciated.

My first ticket was going 82 in 50 zone. I was advised went I went there to go to "first offence section" or whatever they call it. Basically its a way to meet the prosecutor first hand and they will examine the ticket and usually offer a reduced charge. Mine was dropped down to 15 over, no points and a 50 dollar charge.

Also you are correct, if a police officer does not show at the trial date, I beleive the charge gets thrown out.

thats pretty much what they always do.
good idea to do that

my girlfirend went to court twice and she lucked out both times
1. speeding ticket completely thrown out even though the cop was there
2. running a redlight down to 0 points and a $50 fine

oh also forgot to mention that the court thing wont always work because when a cop shows up your most likely going to get what you were originally charged for

My first speeding ticket was 119 in a 80 zone $300. I just went to the JP and got the $$ fine reduced.

The second time I got pulled over for speeding was 140km/hr in a 80 zone. Last line from the OPP officer was Keep the speed down and have a good night.

Needless to say I just cashed in my lucky horse shoe, lucky rabbit foot, and my whatever else that is lucky.

LOL! Zypher is on my MSN and I thought how odd that both he and zeeman got the same speeding ticket on the same day.

^ ahha

yo zephyr, was it a speed trap or did u get pulled over?
was the cop nice to you and stuff or a bitch?
did he reduce it a bit or not?

if he wasnt particularly nice and didnt reduce it and stuff, i would think twice about the court thing cux if he shows up u could lose an opportunity to get the charge reduced by speaking to the prosecutor

call up any of those traffic lawyers and just ask their opinion on what to do. most will advise u of something some r bitches and wont tell u nothing

She didnt treat me with disrespect or anything. Basically was like you were doing 94 in a 60.. ill be back..gives me a ticket and says "just fight it, ive never seen them not drop it" and just said bye nad walked away. if you "fight it" wouldn't the judge reduce it anyways though?

^ sometimes yes, sometimes no

i know a few custies who went to court and they didnt get it reduced at all. but then again the judge probably didnt wanna help out those idiot custies
my girlfirned got off all the time

if u go see the prosecutor, they will reduce it, that is almost guaranteed
if u take it to court, u got chances of it beign reduced or thrown out, or maybe even the charge will stay, although most of the time the charges wont stay unless u did something serious

they never drop a speeding ticket even if the cop doesn't show

tell them that you will pay the ticket but u cant afford the points
they will give u like 30 days to pay

Are you serious? If you did something serious the cop would charge you with something serious. If you did something minor, then that is what the JP will judge you on and convict accordingly. JPs do not as a matter of habit throw out or reduce stuff deemed to be "not serious". They only convict or not based on the evidence brought before them whether the charge is a serious one or not.

If the cop can convince the JP that you did in fact do the deed and you can't convince the JP otherwise, the charge will most certainly stick. Unless you have independent and credible witnesses that you can produce to prove that you were not speeding at the time, the JP will almost always take the cop's word over your's. People in your own car at the time are generally not considered to be independent witnesses.

I've seen people fight speeding tickets that had already been reduced by the cop only to have the JP amend the charge and levy a higher fine that what the ticket showed as the out of court set fine settlement.

Just pay the thing and don't do it again. If it really is your first ticket and you already have your G license, there won't be any effect on your insurance.

On the other hand, if you're planning a career of driving in a manner that will repeatedly get you tickets, then you had better try and fight it.
