Changing Name on Ownership

Hi all,

I'm pretty sure i know the answer to this but i want to verify. If you want to change the ownership name of a vehicle with someone in your family, do you need to re-do the safety and emissions testing?
thanks

hrmmm ah wells.. what's done is done.. hella expensive... would your have to do e-test and safety if the car is only one year old? my car just hit the 5 year mark so I kinda see that i would need an emissions and safety...

its all up to the person behind the desk

if your just giving the car to a family member, you would have to be at the mto with the new registrant and say that its being given as a gift. it would depend on the the person at the mto window. if your lucky they will just change the name on ownership. if ur not, they'll ask for etest and safety

if the car is a gift in family, you do not need a safety, but you will need a e-test.

My brother transfered his old car to my sister and she had to do a safety and e-test to get new plates and stickers. She also had to pay taxes on the car too, but it's was like only 2 to 3 bills.

i didnt have to get a etest or a safety. they just register it under your name as unfit. then they expect u to tow it to where u wanna get in safetied atleast thats how it was for me.

I have went to (3) MTO Drive Offices....
They all say same thing :
You need the person to come with u... transfer ownership as "gift"
No tax
You can transfer plates
You will need to purchase stickers if there expired
You will need e-test if it was done more then 1 yr ago
You need safety anytime a car changes ownership

It's all a bunch of b.s.

Heres my example :
E-test was done in Nov.01.2007
It's now over a year... so I need e-test
I need stickers
And I need a safety.
And the car is a 94 so next year is the even number year and it will need it again.
So 3 e-test's in 3 years... thats something ehhhhh
