The reason they are trying to scare your friend into paying is because dealerships have VERY high deductables and it's often more cost effective to just pay cash for the repairs rather than claim it. I used to work for a dealer where the owner's son crashed the loaner car and they paid $6000 cash to fix it, not through insurance.
Good luck to your friend, I'm sure she'll win.
