snapped cv shaft and balljoints

i was hearing some clicking noises for about 4 or 5 days now. I was going to the mechanic this saturday but the car didnt make it that long. I was on the highway when I heard a loud noise and my car started dragging on the floor. I almost hit the wall on the gardiner. I got it fixed today my cv shaft and balljoints on my driver side. my mechanic said the other side was ok. should i have replaced the other side anyways????

if i was in your position, yes i would. bc if one thing fails, the other is not far behind. but you should check the condition of it first, cv boots, etc.

Again, another example of why I do ALL work on my own car. Incompetent mechanics like this one. (no offense o.p.)

If one side failed, why would you not replace the other???!!! It's been on the car for the same length of time, exposed to the same amount of abuse. It's also common knowledge on civics the ball joints can break when they start to fail. Usually when a front end part breaks on a car due to normal wear and tear, you replace the components on both sides.

Sorry to hear it broke on you on the highway, but glad you or nobody else was hurt.
